Hollis Emery 'Bud' Drake II

POLSON — Hollis Emery "Bud" Drake, II, 82, of Finley Point died at his home on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, surrounded by his family.

Hollis was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Commerce, Okla., to Hollis Drake, Sr. and Dorothy (Strait) Drake. He grew up and was raised in Wallace, Idaho.

Bud joined the U.S. Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served during WWII. After his discharge from the military, Bud returned to Wallace and worked as a hard rock miner. He worked as a silver miner for Hecla Mining Company and the Star Mine. He later worked as a groundskeeper for the Hermiston, Ore., School District and retired in 1985.

Bud married Arlene Altizer on Dec. 16, 1977, in Walla Walla, Wash. Bud and Arlene moved to Finley Point near Polson in 1985.

Bud was a great mechanic and an all-around handyman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed life to the fullest and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents Hollis and Dorothy Drake and his stepfather, Jack Russell; his first wife, Helda, and his second wife, Colleen; his daughter, Carol Ann Greenfield; two sisters, Dorothy Austad and Catherine Triplett.

He is survived by his wife Arlene of Finley Point; children, Kitty Ashcroft of Edwardsburg, Mich., Lee (Paula) Drake of Kissimmee, Fla., Hollis III (Carol) Drake and Joseph (Carolyn) Drake, both of Pendleton, Ore., Joanne (Larry) Bettencourt of Stanford, Ore., Tamara (Andy) Austad of Great Falls, David (Shirley) Drake, Dwayne, Sr. (Deanna) Drake, Michael (Ginger) Drake, all of Pablo.

Visitation will be held on today (Oct. 5), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grogan Funeral Home and Friday, Oct. 6 from 9 am to noon in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ronan. Military honors will follow services at the church.
