POLSON— The Lady Pirates had a tough week as they dropped two games this week with the first coming to Whitefish and the second to Eureka.
The Lady Pirates faced off against the Lady Bulldogs last Thursday, almost a month after their first meeting, as they looked to break the six game win-streak that Whitefish has been on. They were geared up ready to face off against the Lady Bulldogs as the freshman team started Polson with a win earlier in the afternoon.
"I'd like to compliment our freshman volleyball team. They have only lost one match all season, and it was to Whitefish at the beginning of the season," head coach Deanna McElwee said. "But they fought hard and beat Whitefish Thursday."
At the varsity match, Polson held on in the first game but fell 21-25. That would be the closest that they would get on the night to wining as Whitefish went on to sweep it in three, winning 25-13 in the second and 25-14 in the third.
"The girls came out ready to play but couldn't finish the first game," head coach Deanna McElwee said. "We got to 18 and had trouble staying mentally tough. We jumped out on them early again in the second game, but then made too many errors."
Lindsey Rafter and Aislinn Nielson recorded six kills each for a team total of 19 on the night. Nicole Davey had 11 digs with Rafter getting 10 to record a team score of 49. Polson had five blocks on the night with Rafter with three and Angela Schuman with two. Schuman pulled out 13 assists on the night for a team total of 15.
"It was a huge improvement from our first match with them in Whitefish," Coach McElwee said. "It was the best match I've seen Nicole Davey play and Lindsey Rafter did a great job at the net."
Coming off the loss to Whitefish the Lady Pirates were looking to turn the tables on Eureka and take home a win, but they were unable to get the job done as they fell in three. In the first set they went 17-25, 14-25 in the second and 15-25 in the third.
"We did not have the desire that we showed against Whitefish," Coach McElwee said. "We didn't communicate very well. Eureka served tough and we struggled getting things done."
Polson recorded 21 kills with Rafter bringing in nine. They had 14 digs with Rafter getting five and Davey with three. Davey knocked in three aces for a team total of six. Schuman helped out the team with 16 assists for team total of 18.
"We are looking forward to playing Bigfork this week. It's always tough to play in their gym because of the ceiling," Coach McElwee said. "We're hungry for a win."
Polson now gears up to face Bigfork on Thursday in Bigfork.
