Polson blanks Ronan, 41-0
RONAN— The Polson Pirates were able to complete a 41-0 shutout of the Chiefs on Friday night as they improved to 5-1 on the season in Northwestern A play.
The Pirates were able to rack up 275 yards against the Chiefs as they easily shut down their defense. With 34 carries and five touchdowns it was a pretty one-sided game for the Pirates.
"We just hit some big plays in the second quarter. In the first quarter, they were doing some defensive stunts were weren't picking up, but eventually we got the hang of it," said head coach Scott Wilson.
Ted Morigeau ran for two TD's and caught a pass from Craig Bagnell for another. Morgieau scored on five and 33-yard runs and a 20-yard reception. Bryce Picard had two TDs with a 2-yard run and a big 66 yard run. The other TD came from Derek Gerrity on a 14 yard run.
Polson was holding up the Chiefs offense all night, effectively shutting them down. The only time Ronan was close to putting numbers on the board was in the second half when they pushed all the way to the one yard line and then fumbled the ball. Polson recovered in the endzone and took all hopes of points from the Chiefs.
For the first time all season, the Pirates are healthy.
"It's nice to have Cody Doyle back, and Derek Gerrity did a nice job for us. Kalvin Patterson played well for us up front," Wilson said.
Polson now prepares for its homecoming game which will be on Friday against Eureka at 7 p.m. Eureka's two wins are against Bigfork and a Canadian team.
A Polson win would set up a fight for the coveted second place against Whitefish to end the season next week. Second place guarantees homefield advantage in the playoffs. Whitefish has a bye this week.
