Arms confiscation was attempted

| October 25, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

Did you know that during hurricane Katrina, democratic Mayor Nagin of New Orleans sent the police out to confiscate firearms from legal U.S. citizens? With all the looting and civil unrest going on, he actually took officers away from their duty of protecting life and property to take away our second amendment.

Now the U.S. Senate got wind of this and they passed a resolution that basically says that the U.S. government can use no public funds to confiscate U.S. citizens' firearms in the event of a national disaster or emergency. This passed, with the exception of 16 Democratic senators, the entire Democratic leadership: Inouye, Akaka, Boxer, Feinstein, Clinton, Schumer, Menendez, Lautenberg, Mikulski, Sarbanes, Reed, Levin, Durbin, Dodd, Harkin, Kennedy; Kerry voted to take your firearms away before he changed his vote to let you keep them. No kidding.

We are in a very crucial time in America; we are at war with Islamic extremists all over the world … These terrorists have no regard for life, women, children, or our American way of life, "freedom." They know one thing, terror and murder. There is only one way to deal with them.

These people mentioned above have criticized this war effort and the work of our commander and chief all the way down to the troops, since the beginning, with no plan of their own.

When you say we are losing this war on terror, you criticize the troops and the dangerous work they are doing. Very little is mentioned in the press about the outstanding job they have done, the numerous targets they have taken out, the schools, hospitals and neighborhoods they have made safe. The list goes on, at home and abroad.

The point being, at this time, should the above leaders be setting the agenda for the Senate in this nation at this time? What about the House of Representatives — what agenda would Nancy Pelosi, have as speaker of the House? They have no plan to keep you safe. They want to weaken the homeland security that kept us safe since 9/11.

We are more secure than 9/11. Go to the airport, drive up to the Canadian border and see how many Border Patrol you see. Take a ferry ride at one of our ports and see if port security shows up with 50 cal's locked and loaded. Fly a plane low under radar and see if Homeland Security calls the local sheriff. Air force jets are ready to scramble at a moment's notice, and so much more.

Before you vote, consider what the Democratic agenda is and what they stand for. They have not changed morally or how they will spend your tax dollars or how they want to take your firearms and the list goes on. Please check the voting record of your candidate and his or her view of what freedom we should enjoy or not. Think America and Montana.
