Bertha M. 'Monte' Siler

POLSON — Bertha M. "Monte" Siler, age 92 of Polson, died of natural causes on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at the Evergreen Polson Health & Rehab Center.

Bertha was born on Feb. 11, 1914, to Lenora and Thomas Hulett at Stanford. She attended schools at the Valley View School and Polson High School. Bertha married Frank White in 1930 and later divorced in 1945.

In 1970, she was married to Red Siler at Salmon, Idaho. Bertha worked as a welder in the shipyards during WWII on Liberty ships. She and a fellow worker stowed away on their last ship on its trial run.

She also worked as a waitress for many years. Bertha loved the outdoors. She hunted, fished, berry picked, and picked mushrooms. She loved to play cards, especially cribbage. Bertha was a member of the Polson Senior Citizen Center.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lenora and Thomas Hulett; son Bob White; sisters Tress Erickson, Ruby Claffee, Vina Graham, Dede Armstrong; brother John Hulett, and her husband Red Siler.

Surviving Bertha are her daughter, Faye Peterson and husband Bill of Polson; sons Jim White and wife Bobbie of Polson, and Ken Siler of Polson; sister Dana Martin of Polson; brother Tom Hulett of Bigfork; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Polson Senior Citizen Center. The family requests memorials may be made in the name of Bertha to Evergreen Polson Health & Rehab Center, 9 - 14th Avenue West, Polson, MT 59860, attention: Alice; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
