Apology offered for misunderstanding

I am writing in response to a letter you published in the Sept. 14 Leader from Jodi Green Cole of Havre. She was criticizing the treatment of her son at a picnic sponsored by the Burns campaign at Boettcher Park in August.

On behalf of the Lake County Republicans, I would like to apologize to both Ms. Cole and her son. I offer no excuses for the lack of hospitality the boy encountered. I would only like to say that the misunderstanding was on the part of a volunteer, not Senator Burns.

Speaking for myself, I am a Republican who dearly loves children. I think most Republicans — and I would hope — most Democrats feel this way.
