Lady Bulldogs get 3-1 win over Superior
ST. IGNATIUS — Mission's Lady Bulldogs broke their losing streak with a win over Superior, but they lost to Plains on Saturday.
The 'Dogs excelled against Superior in a four-game match.
"It would have been very easy for them to put down their level and lose this match, but they kept working and came out with the win," head coach Kimimi Ashley said.
The first 25-20 win helped put the 'Dogs in the right frame of mind to take the win. They lost the second game 24-26 but they picked it up and won across the next two, 25-21, 25-15.
The 'Dogs led with 37 kills and 19 aces. Ashley Mitchell had 16 of those kills and Shelby Fraker had six aces.
Barb Pfeifer was in the game with nine assists, after injuries sidelined her from the first few games of the season.
Rachel Jensen, Mitchell and Mattea Grant and Fraker each had one block. Mitchell, Cable, Fraker and Pfeifer each had four digs.
Katie McDonald was out with an injury.
Against Plains, the 'Dogs lost in three matches, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-12.
"I think this was some of the hardest hitting we have had against us this year. Plains was doing really well at aiming at our setters to take them out," she said.
The 'Dogs didn't let the loss get them down.
"Even with the things that we need to work on they still weren't that far behind Plains in the scoring," Ashley noted.
Mitchell had eight kills and one block; Grant, Fraker and Pfeifer each had one block. Grant had seven assists and Pfeifer had six. Cable had three aces and five digs. Pfeifer had four digs.
On Thursday the Lady Bulldogs play at home against Valley Christian, and they travel to Florence on Saturday for tournament play.
