Veterinarian was hard to find at night

| September 28, 2006 12:00 AM

Editor,

I am writing this because I had an emergency Saturday night, Sept. 16, and could not find any [veterinary] doctor to help me. Dr. Petersen was out of town for the weekend.

I called every doctor in Polson, Ronan and St. Ignatius, and except for Dr. McKee, whom I called at her home, did not answer.

She does not have her clinic running yet, but she gave me some good advice. Thanks, Doctor.

One doctor had surgery and was not back at work yet; another, the girl was going to reach him, but again no reply. Another could not see him [my cat] but could on Sunday.

I asked what if he dies and he replied, "Then I advise you to go to the emergency clinic in Missoula."

Finally, on Sunday morning, I called the Century Animal Clinic in Kalispell and the woman doctor told me to bring him here. She gave him a shot that helped his vomiting and put fluids in him so I could get him to my doctor Monday morning.

When I got there, my cat had already started to shut down. Dr. Petersen did not give me much encouragement, but said he could give fluids and antibiotics. Miraculously, with the prayers of family and friends and the skill of Dr. Petersen, he is going to be all right. He had poly nephritis and pancreatitis.

By the way, the doctor in Kalispell said she had another patient from Polson for the same reason. I hope you never have an emergency with your family or pet and cannot find any help. It is scary.
