Myrtle Gladys Sturgis Faw

RONAN — Myrtle Gladys Sturgis Faw, 96,

of Ronan died peacefully April 4, 2007, at Hillside Manor in Missoula.

Myrtle was born March 17, 1911, in Durham, Mich., to Bert and Lizzie Sturgis. She grew up in Sidney with her nine brothers and sisters. While growing up she had a pony named Judy that she loved very much and that always came running when she held a pail of grain.

She also loved hiding in the haystacks with her sisters so their brothers could not find them.

She married Tom T. Faw in 1930 in Hysham. They lived on a farm near Hardin where they raised four children, Evelyn, Virginia, Tom and Carol. They moved to Charlo in 1948 where he bought a farm.

Times were tough and Tom ended up getting a job in a phosphate mine in Garrison and would come home weekends.

With the help of her children during the week, Myrtle ran the farm with its small herd of milking cows.

Myrtle loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers, plants and produce. When Tom retired from the phosphate mine, they sold the farm and moved to North Crow, just outside of Ronan.

Myrtle loved it there because she had two creeks running through their property and she was able to grow her beautiful flowers.

She also loved doing crafts such as crocheting, knitting, beadwork and other fun things. She also got into rock hunting with Tom and they made beautiful jewelry, tables and picture frames.

Later they moved to Ronan. Myrtle liked puzzles and after Tom died, she always had an unfinished puzzle set up so when friends stopped by they would sit around piecing the puzzle and visit. She also loved her Savior, going to church and reading her Bible.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom; daughter Ilene, parents Lizzie and Bert Sturgis, brothers Floyd, Lawrence, Leonard, Clifford and sisters Mabel and Dorothy.

She is survived by her children, Evelyn and husband Jim Roosevelt of Pomeroy, Wash., Virginia and husband Robert Hurst of Spokane, Tom and wife Lois Faw of North Bend, Ore., Carol and husband Warner Kobel of Puyallup, Wash.; sisters, Beulah Basta of Glendive, Lenora Johnson of Miles City, Mildred Stinoven of Sidney; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who loved her very much.
