Mariners begin state on Wednesday

| August 2, 2007 12:00 AM

After a frustrating two-and-out performance at last year's American Legion State tournament, the Mariners are back with a vengeance, taking a No. 1 seed into a tournament in which they are the favorite.

Will the pressure be too much?

The M's are fresh off a district tournament title and take a 26-game winning streak and a 55-7 overall record into Libby where on Wednesday at 4 p.m. they matched up against Gallatin Valley, the very team that knocked them out of the tournament last year.

"The guys who played last year have revenge on their mind," said Mission Valley head coach Jami Hanson.

Win or lose, the M's will play their second game today (Thursday, August 2). If they win they play at 4:30 p.m. and if they lost they play at 10 a.m.

Games continue over the weekend, wrapping up with the championship, which is scheduled for Sunday, August 5 at 1 p.m.
