Violet G. 'Vi' Robinson

POLSON — Violet G. “Vi” Robinson, 75, of Polson died at her home on Monday, July 30, 2007.

Violet was born on Dec. 1, 1931, in Trenton, N.D., to John and Dorothy Deserly. Her mother died when she was three years old, and her siblings died during her childhood, being survived only by her father.

She had a special bond with her cousin, Gen Winter, with whom she was raised. They were like sisters.

She attended schools in Williston and graduated from Williston High School.

Vi married Arthur Robinson in 1951. She moved to Alabama while Art served in the U.S. Army. They moved to Columbus, N.D., Stady, N.D., and then to Polson in 1954. Art and Vi established and operated the Tastee Freez in Polson until 1963.

Vi then worked for the Polson Public Schools for 15 years as a cook and baker. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Parish Council of Catholic Women, and she was a volunteer at the Country Store. Vi enjoyed her family, gardening, square dancing, crocheting, and cooking. She was a woman of great faith, courage and stamina who had battled MS for over 30 years. She was a true “Proverbs, Chapter 31” woman.

She always had an optimistic attitude and looked for the bright side of everything and everyone.

Her parents, brother Richard, sisters Mary Ellen, Elsie, and Agnus preceded Vi in death.

Surviving are her husband Art of Polson; her children, David and wife Teresa of Tenino, Wash, Gail Robinson of Polson, Larry and wife Valerie of Dickinson, N.D., Valerie Burningham and husband Steve of Polson; cousin Gen (Winter) Arthaud and her husband Lyle; sisters-in-law Alice Johnson of Polson and Beverly Kem of Columbus; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held at the Grogan Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. At 7 p.m. today (Aug. 2) a vigil service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Aug. 3, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jim Connor officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. A reception will follow in the lower level at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Roberta ‘Bobbie' Culp

Bobbie was born in Deer Lodge on Aug. 9, 1943, to Art and Grace Zimmerman, but she grew up in Polson were she graduated from Polson High School. She joined the Navy, married a Navy officer, had a son, and lived in Spain where her daughter was bor. Coming back to the States, she worked for the Civil Service until she went back to school to become a nurse.

When she divorced her first husband, she moved home to Montana and accepted a job with Tribal Health. Later she was instrumental in helping establish the Nursing Program at Salish Kootenai College.

On Oct. 27, 1980, she married Dr. Stephen F. Culp. Together they enjoyed a love of nature and the outdoors. They hunted and fished, hiked and skied and gardened together. Bobbie had a great “green thumb” but she loved art and music, did painting and stained glass and loved reading and writing.

At their home in the Charlo area, she loved watching the deer and other wildlife as well as her beloved cat Joe and dog Salie.

Bobbie is survived by her husband Steve; daughter Christina Welch of Missoula; son Bill Welch of Las Vegas; and sister Penny Campbell of Palm Desert, Calif.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Community Hospital Rehab Center, Missoula, or the Oncology Department at St. Patrick Hospital, Missoula.

Morna Weldon

LAUREL — Former Polson resident Morna Weldon died July 25, 2007, a the home of her daughter Cheryl Cavey, in Laurel. Morna had lived with her sister, Loris Burns, in Laurel for 11 years after the death of her husband, Lowell Weldon, in 1995.

The Weldons lived on the east shoe of Flathead Lake for many years. Both Morna and Lowell (Shorty) were active members of Polson Christian Church and Morna was an active member of the Montecahto Club.

Services were held July 28 in Laurel. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered next to her husband near the Gallatin River.
