| February 15, 2007 12:00 AM

RONAN — Gene Arnold Fisher, 77, died peacefully at his Round Butte home on Jan. 28, 2007, with family at his side.

He was born Oct. 30, 1929, to Albert Farrell and Anna Caroline Fisher in Ronan.

Gene attended school in Round Butte and Ronan, graduating in 1948.

Gene was honorably discharged after serving four years in the Navy. He married Hazel Montgomery in 1955 and they raised four children, Linda, Terry, Laurie, and Marcia.

Gene was a skilled carpenter in the Seattle area for several years, working on such projects as the Seattle World’s Fair and the Floating Bridge. The family moved to Round Butte in 1964 when Gene took over the Fisher family ranch.

He was also a rural mail carrier providing excellent customer service in the Round Butte area for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ab, Bill, Art, and Roy; sister Betty Patton, and nephew Jim Fisher with whom he was especially close.

Gene is survived by sisters Lou Olson Duford of Pablo and Mary Bargfeld of Las Cruces N.M.; children, Linda Montgomery of Olympia, Wash., Terry (Debbie) Fisher of Sammamish, Wash., Laurie Fisher of Clinton, Marcia Meyers of Round Butte; son-in-law Joe Meyers of Polson; grandchildren, Gene, Megan, Roy, and Beth; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Not to be forgotten are his pets Bella and Stella and grandpets Sam, Gracie, Arthur, Orson and Hopper.

Gene had a keen sense of humor, which was greatly appreciated by all who knew him and is fondly remembered by his coworkers at the Ronan Post Office for his participation in practical jokes.

He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and that he was able to continue his father’s legacy on the home ranch.

Gene especially enjoyed his friends and neighbors in the Round Butte community. The Rinke family, in particular, were wonderful neighbors to Gene and they are considered part of our extended family. He will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held at the CMA (Ronan Alliance) Church, followed by military graveside rites. Pastor Arnold Steinart officiated. Arrangements were made through Shrider-Thompson Funeral Services, Ronan.
