Lady Pirates get first volleyball win

| October 11, 2007 12:00 AM

If you listen carefully, you can almost feel the weight being lifted off their shoulders, as the Lady Pirates volleyball team scored their first victory of the season over Columbia Falls last week in an exciting five-game match.

And they did it by buckling down for the comeback, after falling behind 2-1. Polson took the win in the first game, 25-22, but lost the next two, 23-25, and 19-25.

But the Lady Pirates got their chins up, and came back to win 25-19, forcing a game five that came down to the wire. In the end, Polson took the win with an exciting 15-13 victory over the Kats.

Christa Red Crow and Aislinn Nielsen led the team with nine kills each. Breanne Kelley and Nicole Davey both had two blocks to lead the team, while libero Staci Benson had 26 digs on defense.

Danielle Tidwell led the team with 14 assists, and along with Kayla Duford, turned in four aces to get the offense going.

Polson will travel to the Missoula Invite this weekend, where they’ll face some familiar foes from around the region. Next Thursday, they host Bigfork and Stevi at home, starting at 10 a.m.
