T-Falls collars Lady 'Dogs in opener

Thompson Falls' Bria Howard kicked off the Western B-C season by pitching a complete seven-inning game, striking out 12 and allowing just three walks and two hits as the Bluehawks stormed St. Ignatius for a 9-0 victory.
"We knew we were going to face one of the top pitchers in the state in Bria, and she held up to her billing," Lady Bulldog coach Steve Woll said. "She's going to do that to a lot of teams and make them look pretty silly at the plate."
Bella Dally worked five innings for St. Ignatius, striking out five and allowing seven hits. Daly allowed just one extra-base hit, but her effort was hurt by five fielding errors by the Lady Bulldogs.
"I wasn't sure what we were going to get out of our pitchers, but I thought they did pretty good," Woll said. "We didn't help them by having what I call 'routine errors.' I think it will help when we get a set lineup and we get used to playing with each other."
Shianne Montgomery and Rachel Jensen each had a single for St. Ignatius, their only two hits of the night.
"Delina Weaselhead, Katie McDonald and [Montgomery] did some good things for us and showed the upside that this team has," Woll said. "We need more people to get the ball in play. We didn't force them to make many plays tonight."
The Lady Bulldogs' Friday game at Eureka was postponed due to the weather. The game was rescheduled to April 17 as part of a doubleheader in St. Ignatius.
Woll and company will return to action this week when they host Deer Lodge on Saturday.
"I expect [Deer Lodge] to be the surprise team in the conference," Woll said. "They had a solid first year last season. They should really be tough this year."
