Charlo girls net two wins

CHARLO — The Vikings ate up the competition during last week's play against 8-B opponents Superior, 60-19, and Thompson Falls, 53-19, which gives them a 13-2 overall record.

Against Superior, the Cats stayed in the single digits on the board for the first three quarters. They slightly progressed in the fourth quarter, 10-10. But otherwise, the Vikings had a clear lead.

In the first quarter, the Vikings only let one two-pointer get past their tight defense to take a 15-2 lead. They dominated second-quarter play and entered halftime up 18-3.

"We played good defense. We covered the ball well," head coach Bret Thompson said.

In the past few years, Thompson Falls hasn't played ball in the district, but this year they've come back and it's taking them some time to get their feet planted firmly on the ground.

"We played them earlier this year with similar results," Thompson said. "This is the first time they've been back in the district in awhile, and they did play better this time."

Stephanie Maughan led with 13 points on the board. Shianne Montgomery scored 12, Turquoise Deveraux scored ten and Jaris Kelley scored seven points. Justine Morigeau scored six, Samijo Kain and Staci Stipe each scored five each and Stephanie Murphy scored two.

In the first quarter, the game was tight against Thompson Falls, 12-8. But the Vikings gained another 12 points in the second quarter and the Lady Hawks began to lag behind, dropping to 15-7. By the fourth quarter, Charlo outpaced Thompson Falls 14-0.

Murphy scored 21 points, Montgomery scored ten, Morigeau scored six, Maughan scored four, and Kain and Kelley each scored four points. Courtney Couture scored three and Rochelle Toussaint scored one.
