Reflection of my Week

Lyndsie Conklin / Leader Staff

To reflect on my thoughts. A tough thing to do; especially when you think a lot.

After writing my first article on the Windmill Village, I reflected on the day and the beautiful landscape and people there. And then used my "talent" of being a poet and (of course) wrote a poem.

Sipping Huckleberries

Peaceful place

Fish are jumping

Small whistle of the wind

Cools what needs cooling

Sipping Huckleberries

Learning something new

Dragonflies buzzing past

Skimming the pond's surface

Smiling faces

Windmill stands rusting

Writing down quotes

Which later forms into a story

Clock ticks

The talking tourists

Natives run around

Yet they seem to manage

Paintings hang

Chairs all around

We just sit there

Sipping huckleberries

I know that not everyone will like what I have written, yet I believe that poetry is a chance to express yourself; however that may be. Not everything can speak, but it still tells its story one way or another; we just have to listen.

Another thought running through my head has to do with the past. I have a friend in Germany that was a foreign exchange student my Freshmen year and we now email back and forth. We were talking about a friend of both of ours that I haven't really talked to since the beginning of this year. My German friend wisely advised me to contact her and apologize. After reading this I knew she was completely right! I sent an email with an unsure feeling that she would even read it. So now, here I am doing the craziest thing I think I may have ever done. But right now; I am asking her (you know who you are) for her forgiveness. I am not quite sure what my mistakes are but I am aware that I did something to upset her.

And lastly, I would like to thank everyone on the Leader/Advertiser Staff for "taking me in" and giving me the chance to steel a place in their paper. I have learned lots and lots, just in the last weeks. Some of it may be things that I already knew, but sometimes you need to review things.

So if you have questions, comments, or just want to give story ideas (because we need them) email me at leaderintern.lc@gmail.com. I am looking forward to reading all of your ideas and questions.
