Josephine Violette Fleming
POLSON — Josephine Violette Fleming, 92, of Polson died at St. Luke Community Nursing Home in Ronan on March 3, 2008.
Josephine was born a twin to Joseph on May 16, 1915 in Hoover, S.D., to Joseph and Bertie Mae Arpan.
She grew up and attended grade schools in Ekalaka and two years at Carter County High School. Her family moved to St. Ignatius and Jo graduated from Missoula County High School in 1933.
She married Sherman Violette in 1933. They had two sons together — Don and Jim. Sherman died in 1948. Jo continued to work in Missoula for a few years as a secretary at Deschamps Realty. She also worked as a bank messenger and owned her own grocery store.
She moved her young family to Polson in 1950 and began working at Pacific Power & Light as a telephone operator. She met and married Paul Fleming on Nov. 5, 1952. They had one son together — Paul.
Jo helped her husband on the family farm until they retired in 1981.
She enjoyed traveling, working crossword puzzles and watching her grandchildren. Jo was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Sherman Violette and Paul Fleming, all of her siblings and her parents.
She is survived by her three sons, Don Violette and his wife Ann of Polson, Jim Violette and wife Sharron of Polson and Paul Fleming of Seattle; grandchildren, Jeanne', Jean Paul, Amanda, James, Andrew, Erin, Sean, and Ryan and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial was Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.

Doris Jane Bratton Burley
RONAN — Doris Jane Bratton Burley, 83, died March 2, 2008. She was born Feb. 5, 1925, at the home of her grandparents, Joe and Dora Findley. She lived in Irvine Flats and moved to Round Butte in 1930, along with her parents, Neil and Helen Bratton, and her brothers and lived there almost all of her life.
She went away to college in Bozeman, followed by a brief teaching position in a one-room school at Big Bend, and a 13-year position in Box Elder while living at Big Sandy. She and her family moved back to Round Butte in 1961 and she taught until her retirement in Ronan.
She always said that the true treasure she would leave behind was her family and she lived as though that was true.
She is survived by her four children: Lynn Bynum (Randy), Alan Burley (Rachel), Dennis Burley (Leigh-Anne) and Jan McAvoy (Tim); nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ed Bratton (Clara), Phil Bratton (Gay) and Gene Bratton (Jean); a sister-in-law Midge Bratton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husband of 52 years, Bill Burley, died in 1998.
She quoted and wrote poetry, loved written words and always read. She spent her career life in English and library. That fit so well with what she enjoyed. Education was never negotiable and in almost all matters, she was a woman of peace and wouldn't argue or try to sway opinion. She was a haven for the "underdog." She had a gentle spirit and a love of family.
Services will be Friday, March 7, at the Mission Valley Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in her name to either St. Luke Extended Care or the Round Butte Women's Club.

John Frederic Petersen
POLSON — John Frederic Petersen, DVM, died peacefully in his sleep March 9, 2008. His passing was a result of complications following multiple surgeries for severe scoliosis.
Visitations will be held at Grogan Funeral Home on Thursday, March 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Friday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery will take place on Saturday, March 13, at 1:30 p.m.

Judi Osborne
POLSON — Judi Osborne, 64, died suddenly on Saturday, March 8, 2008, in St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. Funeral services will be at St. Andrew's Church, Polson, Saturday, March 15, at 10 a.m.

Derick "Rick" Arnold
POLSON — Derick "Rick" Arnold, 42, of Polson died of natural causes at his home on March 5, 2008.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1965, in Anaconda, to George and Barbara Arnold.
He grew up in Malta. Rick moved to Polson where he worked at Pier 93 for 10 years. Rick later moved to Texas and Oregon where he was a truck driver for several years.
Rick eventually moved back to Polson to help care for his father.
He married Anita Joseph in December of 2006 and they had one child together.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Joseph Arnold of Polson; one daughter, Innocent Barbara Marie Arnold; step-children, CeNedra Kenmille, Dezra Kenmille, Drewan Wilder, Karsyn Wilder and Eneas Kenmille; one granddaughter, Lyniza Kenmille; two brothers, the Rev. Joel Arnold and Bruce Arnold of Helena; a sister, Pamela Spritzer of Bozeman, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were March 8 in the Elmo Hall in Elmo. Burial was in the Elmo Cemetery.

Clarence Melvin Fishel
TORONTO, Kan. — Clarence Melvin Fishel, 92, of Toronto, Kan., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his home. Inurnment services will be at a later date in Hokah, Minn. There will also be a memorial service at a later date in Belle Fourche, S.D.
Lorine Fercho
PABLO — Lorine Fercho, 78, of Pablo walked into the arms of Jesus, Friday March 7, 2008, at St. Luke Community Nursing Home.
Lorine was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Gackle, N.D., to Harold and Pauline Wentz. She was one of seven children.
Lorine married Earl Fercho, Dec. 14, 1949. They lived on a farm in Lehr, N.D. In 1955 they moved to Snohomish, Wash. where they resided for two years. In 1957 they moved to Jamestown, N.D., where Lorine worked at Hi-Acres Nursing Home for 13 years. In 1972 they moved to Missoula,to be near the mountains they grew to love while on family vacations.
Lorine worked three years for Corrine's Queens Clothing Store. In August 2004 they moved to Ponderosa Trailer Park in Pablo and became the managers of the park.
Lorine loved to cook and bake for friends and family. Her tradition was to make some fantastic fruitcakes before the Christmas holidays and share them with many people.
"Gramma" always had time to stop and enjoy a "good ole" gospel sing where she would clap her hands and stomp her feet to the music.
She enjoyed reading the paper everyday and doing search-a-word puzzles. She dearly enjoyed her family. Her five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a few "adopted" grandchildren were the pride of her life. She always had a chocolate or two in her purse for them. She had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with everyone.
Lorine was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Earl of Pablo; son Allen Fercho and his wife, Patsy of Glendive, and their children Chad, Troy (Jessica), Laci and great-grandson, Edan; daughter Faye Bauer and her husband Rick of Charlo and their children, daughter, Andrea (Brandon), great-grandchildren Jodesa, Cami, Nathan, Sierra, Alexa, and Jadyn, and son, Nathan (Jamie), great-grandchildren, Paije and Sidney.
She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were March 11 in the Pablo Baptist church with Pastor Kenny Prewett officiating. Interment was in the Ronan Cemetery.

Katherine J. Hall
RONAN — Katherine J. Hall of Polson died in Missoula on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
Katherine Josephine Jochim was born Nov. 25, 1911, near Beulah, N.D. She was one of 10 children born to Marion and Joseph Jochim, German emigrants from Odessa, Russia. Four of the children were born in Russia, two died there and one died aboard the ship en route to the U.S. Two more were born in a sod house and the rest near Beulah. All preceded Katherine in death.
Her father died in the 1918 flu epidemic leaving her mother with seven children and few resources.
Katherine married Theodore Hall in 1930 and they lived near Circle and Fort Peck before moving to the Pablo area in 1937. They lived in Seattle during WWII.
She loved gardening, especially flowers, and the Mission Mountains. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 32 years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Katherine traveled to Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Canada and Hawaii.
Surviving are three sons and their spouses, Gerald and JoAnn of Missoula, Richard and Nancy of Central Point, Ore., and Donald and Paulette, of Ivins, Utah; eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held March 11 at the Ronan Cemetery with Father James Connor officiating.
Zada Marie Roseleip
ST. IGNATIUS — Zada Marie Roseleip, 102, died March 4, 2008, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan.
Marie was born to Cort and Della (Hanks) Wunderwald on Jan. 11, 1906, on a ranch west of Moore. She attended Wild Rose School for the first three years. She later moved to their homestead near Denton. She grew up searching for wildflowers, fossils and cultivating an appreciation for God's creation.
Marie attended her first year of high school in Denton and then boarded in Lewistown so she could finish high school at Fergus County High where she took normal teachers' training. She taught at Sunny Side School near Denton and in Coffee Creek until her marriage.
In 1928 she married Robert Roseleip in Lewistown. They farmed near Cuba City, Wisc., for five years. Their son, Bob, was born there.
In 1934 Bob, Marie and Bob Jr. moved to the Mission Valley. Her daughter, Linda, was born six years later. St. Ignatius has been Marie's home for 73 years.
Most of those years were on their farm east of town. She was active in her church teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible school. She was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League at local and state levels.
She was a volunteer librarian for more than 30 years, was a member of PTA, Foothills Club, Garden Wall Club, served on the cemetery board and the Ground Observer Corps. Most of all she enjoyed watching her family and flowers grow.
In 1999 Bob died. Marie lived with her son and daughter-in-law for many years, enjoying them and visits from her extended family. Later she moved one-eighth of a mile down the road to Closer to Home Assisted Living where she felt Cheryl and her crew continued to give her wonderful care.
Marie was welcomed "home" by her husband of 71 years, Bob, her parents, her younger brother Leon Wunderwald, his wife Helen and a brother-in-law, Ed Leininger.
Marie is survived by her younger sister, Golda Leininger of Lewistown; her children, Bob (Dorathy) Roseleip, of St. Ignatius and daughter Linda (Dave) Werdin of Lewistown; eight grandchildren, Dennis (Dixie) Roseleip of Billings, David (Jan) Roseleip of Spokane, Jerry (Billye) Roseleip of Deer Lodge, Montana, Julie (Matt) Indreland and Jeanne (Guy) Rasmussen of Missoula, Mike (Laura) Roseleip of Kent, Wash., Monty (Sue) Werdin of Lewistown, and Mark (Atsuko) Werdin of Ellensburg, Wash. She is survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held in St. Ignatius at Zion Lutheran Church on March 8. Interment will be this summer during a family reunion.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, St. Ignatius, the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens or to a charity of your choice.
L. Dorrene Darlington
RONAN — L. Dorrene Darlington died on March 4, 2008, at the Missoula Community Hospital. A memorial service was held March 12 at the Mission Valley United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held in the Ronan Cemetery. The full obituary will appear at a later date.
Adaline Bernice Peone
ST. IGNATIUS — Adaline Bernice Peone, 82, died peacefully at her home in St. Ignatius on March 5, 2008.
A member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, she was born in Polson on Oct. 12, 1925, to Louis and Anna (Finley) Marengo.
She married Francis Peone and they made their home in St. Ignatius where they raised 14 children.
She was a dedicated wife and mother and a very kind and dignified woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sons Dean, Kenneth, Leslie, Gary, Stanley and Alan and several grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Howard, Raymond, Douglas, Marvin, Darrel, Beverly, Joyce and Sharlene as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mass was celebrated March 10 in the St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Cremation followed the services as per her request.
Randy Keith Swilling
POLSON — Randy Keith Swilling. 66, of Polson died of natural causes on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Evergreen Health and Rehab Center.
In following Randy's wishes his body has been donated to medicine.

Clara Fisher
RONAN — Clara Victoria "Vicki" "Sis" (Plant) Fisher, 74, died Sunday, 2008, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. A traditional wake began on Tuesday in the Longhouse in St. Ignatius.
