Polson sweeps county meet

The Polson High School track teams swept the Lake County Track Meet last Tuesday, comfortably outdistancing the region's other four schools with both their girls and boys squads.

The Class A Lady Pirates won 11 of the meet's 14 events, racking up 149 points to outpace second-place Charlo's 64. Ronan-St. Ignatius finished with 51, Arlee 20 and Two Eagle River 6.

Polson girls' teams won both the 400 and 1600-meter relays. They also had three individuals who won multiple titles. Breanne Kelley was the only three-time winner, coming away with victories in the 200-meters, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Christa Redcrow won two events of her own, topping the 100-meters field with a time of 13.7 seconds and posting the furthest long jump by a full foot.

Loni Havlovick picked up wins in the discus and 800-meters, as well as a second-place finish in the shot put. Charlo's Brittany Shaver was also a multiple winner in the 800 and 1600-meter races.

Polson's Nicole Davey took the trophy in the 400-meters, teammate Mary Wiedrich won the 3200-meters, and Ronan-St. Ignatius' Ishan Wylie rounded out the winners on the girls' side.

The Polson boys scored 118 points to top Ronan-St. Ignatius with 83, Charlo with 60, Arlee with 28 and Two Eagle River with none. The Chiefs actually won six events to the Pirates' five, but Polson's depth put them over the top.

Makenzy Kelch starred for Ronan, taking top honors in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints. Four other Chiefs took titles, including Jordan Rohrich in the 400-meters and Danny Beavers in the 3200-meters. Jake Durgalo also won the shot put and Adam Skogen won the javelin for Ronan.Polson was led by Cody Doyle's pair of titles in the long jump and 110-meter hurdles.

Senior Ray Dalke also won the 1600-meters and sophomore Alex Havlovick won the discus for the Pirates. Polson's Logan Torgison was not available to challenge in the 800 and 1600-meter races, as he was away considering a track scholarship offer. Polson's 400-meter relay team also picked up a title.

Charlo's third-place effort was led by individual titles from Cody Nitschke in the 300-meter hurdles and senior Jeff Bucholz in the 800-meters. The Class C Vikings' 1,600-meter relay team topped the Class A Polson and Ronan-St. Ignatius squads to round out the meet's champions. Charlo topped both of the other squads by more than four seconds to get the win.

Arlee saw their competitors finish in third place in three different events; Cody Haynes in both the discus and shot put, and Kyle Felsman in the 400-meters.
