POLSON 'd1 Jules Clavadetscher was appointed to represent Ward 2 on the Polson City Council on Wednesday, Sept. 24. During the scheduled meeting of the council, Clavadetscher was voted in, with one dissenter, to replace deceased respected former representative Tom Jones.

In his application to the council, Clavadetscher wrote that he was adequately prepared for the job.

"I live in Ward, have lived in Polson for nearly nine years and have previous experience on the City Council and the Mayor's office," he said.

Since retiring his services as part of the city government, Clavadetscher wrote that he had been involved primarily in business matters, an aspect that other council members found appealing.

"Since leaving city government over one year ago, I have maintained my involvement as Treasurer and member of the Board of Polson Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, a Board member of Polson Rotary and continuing member of the Salish Point Committee," Clavadetscher said.

Summing up his qualifications, Clavadetscher asked the council to consider him for the position.

"I believe that I have good insight into the needs of the majority of Polson residents and, especially, those in my Ward," he said.

The other candidate being considered for the job was Daye-Llyn D. Randle. He was also highly qualified, according to his application.

"Along with several decades of private and public employment related to the application of civil, electrical, mechanical engineering and insurance principals; my experience includes volunteer service as a fire fighter, EMT, Red Cross instructor 'd0 many years ago but still appropriately relevant," Randle said.

The council sided with Clavadetscher and after Mayor Lou Marchello read him his oath of service, he swore in and was welcomed to the council.

In addition to the new appointment, the council also approved a water and sewage connection option for two lots belonging to Brad and Debbie Marengo. A plan was chosen which would allow the residents to construct a waterline this fall or winter and keep existing septic systems on both lots providing they pay the city its revenues after a Zone Change.

In addition, the council approved the placement of signs on Skyline Drive off of Mission View Drive and hill cutback to increase visibility.

A discussion ensued afterwards where several residents demanded that local law enforcement agencies do a better job enforcing speed limits near Skyline Drive. Mayor Marchello said the Council would take their concerns seriously.

Two members at large and one Ward 1 member were appointed to the golf board. A request to extend the timeline for privately financed water and sewer lines died for lack of motion, a plan proposed to replace the curb on 15th Ave. East was postponed and the method of transfer of library property was discussed.

The August 2008 Cash Report was approved and the 2008 public funds investment bids were announced.

The next regular meeting of the Polson City Council will be on Oct. 6.
