Olijnyk, Dennis Lee "Boris"

| October 10, 2008 12:00 AM

Dennis "Boris" Lee Olijnyk, 63, of Ronan, passed away in his home while he slept near his beloved Mission Mountains.

Boris was born in Billings on May 5, 1945, where he attended Billings Senior High and developed his love for history, English and literature. After graduating from MSU in 1967, he went to the University of Maryland to study law. Finding that law wasn't the life for him, he joined Milwaukee Railroad in Deer Lodge where he was employed until the Missoula office was closed. This allowed Boris to follow his passions in the University of Montana School of Journalism.

Boris very much loved his family, friends and enjoyed conversation with everyone. He had a great memory for stories and the people he encountered. It was common for him to use the phrase, "my friend" when he spoke to or about those close to him.

Boris was quite the traveler. He spent extended time in Mexico and realized his dream by going to Nepal. He trekked 16,500 feet up the Himalayas, taking fantastic photos and collecting wonderful stories along the way. Boris made friends wherever he went.

After living in Missoula for many years, Boris moved to rural Ronan. He was happy and content in the barn that he converted into his home and shop and quickly made many new friends.

There will be a memorial get together at the Montana Waterfowl Foundation on Sunday, Oct. 12 from 1-5 p.m. Please join us as we celebrate his life. Anyone who wishes is welcome to bring a dish to share. Please bring your own beverages. For more information, contact Anna 676-8322.
