Masters of deceit
Mimi and Irv Milheim, Dayton
Two devastating events of the past weeks) should open the eyes of those Americans blinded by the charismatic oratory of Barack Obama. The government bailout of Fanny and Freddy is another example of the Democrats deflecting blame from themselves and transferring it to the administration and Republicans. Look at the facts the liberal media aren't giving you, folks!
More than seven years ago in April, 2001, President Bush sounded the warning of a "potential problem" with Fanny and Freddy. Again in 2003, the administration issued an urgent call for regulations. This was opposed by Democrats led by Rep. Barney Frank, ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, who has chaired the committee since 2006. In 2005, Alan Greenspan warned of questionable accounting procedures and predicted future risk for the total financial system. The warning was deflected by Democratic senator Schumer, who claimed that Fanny and Freddy were doing an excellent job. In 2006, John McCain co-sponsored a bill calling for more regulations and immediate reform to prevent Fanny and Freddy from acquiring bad mortgages. The bill was supported by all Republicans, but not one Democrat. It died for lack of support from the Democratic controlled congress.
Senator Obama did not weigh in on any of this. Who would you say is most responsible for our financial mess? Senator McCain set aside his campaign and put duty and country first to address this issue. Senator Obama continued his campaign oratory, pretending that it was all the fault of the Republicans! The result was the expansion of Secretary Paulson's three- or four-page document into a 400-plus page vehicle for more outrageous pork in this Democrat-controlled congress.
The other shocker was the action of a judge in Ohio who permitted the Democrats to cruise the streets picking up any one they could find on the street corners and in homeless shelters. In one day, one thousand individuals were driven to voting centers where they could register and cast an absentee ballot immediately. Addresses, citizenship, etc. could not be checked.
It is time for this kind of corrupt method of winning elections to stop!
Every voter must take a serious look at the two kinds of change offered in this crucial election. Ask yourself what kind of future you will be creating for your children and grandchildren. There have been many serious connections and actions in Senator Obama's checkered past which have been cited over the past two years. It is obvious that he is motivated by greed for personal power. Don't be deceived by his smooth oratory. Senator McCain has illustrated his entire life, including twice in this campaign, that he puts country above party.
Can we still have faith in the wisdom of our electorate, or will clever oratory, corruption, media distortions, and big money determine who leads us? Your vote will count in this close election!
