The majority rules?
I have tried very hard since Nov. 4 not to be a bad loser. Of course, there was the happy exception of many of Lake County’s local elections to bolster me up - Janna, John, Lynn, Bill and Scott, for instance.
At this point, I would like to make the following observation - something I learned many years ago in my ninth-grade civics class: In a Democracy, the majority always rules. But the majority is not always right.

The kindness continues
Over one year ago, our family embarked on an adventure, recovering our son from autism. What a ride it has been. Initially, it was terrifying, and we allowed ourselves to feel that for about two seconds. Then, it was time to go to work. Support from our community has been one of the greatest things we’ve had to lean on, besides God and each other. As with most things of this nature, the initial shock dissipates and people tend to move on. In our case, we have tested these relationships in the fires and have been held up by the ones made of gold. Recently we were reminded of this very thing. . . I am a lifelong resident of the great Round Butte area and have always taken pride in that. It’s an area filled with warm hearts, hard working people, great neighbors and is a great thing to be associated with. Over the last couple years, myself and a few other “younger” women recognized that and decided to join the Round Butte Woman’s Club. This is a wonderful group filled with dear people, past and present. It is an invaluable tradition that we want to see continue. Many of them have known me my entire life and welcomed me and the rest of the ‘new blood.’ Well, it didn’t stop at welcoming. This Saturday after attending one of the club’s events, the Spring Fling Brunch, a few members of the club knocked on our door. They entered our house and we enjoyed a nice visit, then they entered our hearts by donating a large cash donation for our son Decker and his therapy. This little organization is not one that raises huge amounts of money and usually the profits are ate up by maintaining the old building itself just so it can keep the tradition alive and provide a nice meeting place for our little community. The donation touched us deeply and reminded us that God is good and these wonderful women are a vessel that He works through. Thanks ladies, your support and that of the rest of the community is an integral part of our son’s life and his future.

Dr. Obama has the right prescription
Visualize the economy as a critically ill child. Visualize Congress and the president as doctors discussing treatment options. Some are prescribing two aspirins a day and in time the patient may get better. Others are saying the prescription should be for antibiotics. Both forementioned options have worked on occasion. The president is prescribing surgery along with known medications plus some of the newest and most expensive drugs. His approach is being attacked as too expensive. He believes that saving the life of the child should be the most important factor in selecting a course of treatment. Eventually, the child will recover and by becoming productive, will pay back the cost incurred in the treatment. This voter supports the course of treatment selected by Dr. Obama.

Thanks for the brunch support
I want to give a special thanks to those who supported our Round Butte Woman’s Club brunch this past Sunday, March 22. Our brunch was small but our community hearts are large. It was successful in every way. From the ladies that continue to support our community clubhouse by preparing the brunch and the people that supported it by attending and eating breakfast with us. It is a great time for friends and neighbors to come together and visit. This is the first time we offered a silent auction. It was well received and the items were supported by our members and local community. A big thank you to: Frank’s Meats, Westland Seed, Mountain West Co-op, All Creatures Mobile (Beth Blevins), Bud and Ramona Lynch, Sonny and Gail Herreid, Kathy Emerson, Margaret Burke and an anonymous basket donor.
With much gratitude,
Geri Herreid, President of Round Butte Woman’s Club
Citizen uninformed
I read with amazement and concern the second off-base letter to the editor concerning city management, by Tom Ryan ( “Again, city management missed point, March 26). I have a suggestion for this citizen: get real. He should better inform himself of true facts concerning the matters to which he rants and when he properly educates himself, then he should make his concerns, ideas and positive suggestions to his city commissioner. I have great confidence in the mayor and city council that they will have a qualified city manager that Polson can afford.
