LC Democrats meeting

The Lake County Democrats will meet on Thursday, April 16 at the Polson Library. We will gather at 6 p.m. for a social half hour and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Please remember to bring items for the food pantry. Everyone is welcome.

Owl Institute meeting

The Ronan PTA will sponsor Author Night with Denver Hold, an owl specialist from the Owl Institute out of Charlo. The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at the Performing Arts Center at Ronan Middle School. The event is free.

Hangin’ Art music

Music At The Hangin Art Gallery and Coffee House on U.S. Highway 93 in Arlee will feature Dan Dubuque, Blues, Rhythm and Soul, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

Free Dinner

Have Dinner with us on Friday, April 17 and the third Friday night of each month at our Friendship Table. Everyone in the community is welcome. MVM tryouts

The Mission Valley Mariner American Legion Baseball Association will be having tryouts for the 2009 season on April 17-19 at the O’Malley field in Polson.  Contact Jamie Hanson at 249-4430 for more information.

Fups basketball tourney

The 39th annual “Charlo Fups Basketball Tournament”  will be held April 17-19 in Charlo and Dixon Montana. The tournament, which is Montana’s longest running town team tournament, is held as a benefit for the students of Charlo High School and as a reunion for the players. There are divisions for Mens B, Mens C and Womens Recreation. There is no Mens A Division which is for current or former college players. Sons of Norway

Nordman’s Vis (Sons of Norway) meets at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at the Charlo Senior Citizens Hall. Hope Stockstad is the host. All Norwegians and anyone interested in Norway is invited to share a pleasant afternooon with us: a few drinks, a great Norwegian feast, and an interesting DVD on the Vikings.

Spring Luau Fundraiser - Hula for Chemo

Come join your friends at Glacier Brewery No. 6 at 10th Ave. E., from 2-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 in Polson for the spring luau. Enjoy live music all day, including The Faded Line at 3 p.m., The Singing Sons of Beaches at 4 p.m. and Xtra Sauce at 6 p.m. Tasty food and craft beer and sodas will be available for purchase and door prizes will be given away throughout the day. Arlee CDC meeting

The April meeting of the Arlee Community Development Corporation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 18 at The Hangin’ Art Gallery and Coffee House on U.S. Highway 93 in Arlee. The meeting is open to the public. For more information contact Kelley at 726-5550.

Skatepark fundraiser

The 52 Skatepark and The Skate Ignatius Project will be holding a fundraising skate competition at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the 52 Skatepark in Missoula. Owners of the 52 Skatepark, Dylan Tucker and Jamie Erickson will be hosting a competition.  The admission fee is $5 and there will be great prizes and giveaways. The Skate Ignatius Project will be on hand selling concessions and T-shirts, including a new design showcasing “Saint Ignatius, the skater.” The 52 Skatepark is located off West Broadway, just west of the airport. From 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 “Share The Vision, I have been to the top of the Mountain” by Pend d’Oreille Tribal member, Kenny “Warhoop” Camel. Come hear Kenny’s life stories about events in his life that have impacted his dreams and visions and his view of his spiritual life. Open and free to the public, for more information call 675-0160. Also, beading and outfit construction classes every Wednesday here at The People’s Center from 1-4 p.m. through April and May and June. Receive instruction from tribal bead workers.

DMV reduced

services

On Monday, April 20 County Motor Vehicle staff will be providing very limited services due to final preparations for deployment of the new motor vehicle MERLIN system on April 21. No title work or registration renewals will be performed due to the limited use of the new system. Motor Vehicle transactions will resume on Tuesday, April 21. Please allow for extra time to complete transactions.

 Charlo Kindergarten round-up

 The Charlo Elementary School is holding its Kindergarten Round-up from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 20. To be eligible for kindergarten next fall, a student must be five years old by Sept. 10. Parents need to bring a birth certificate and immunization records to the registration. Spring Hunters Education Class

Registration for the Spring Hunter Education course will run from 6:30 -9 p.m. on Monday, April 20, in Room 118 at the Beaverhead Math and Science building on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo. A parent or guardian must accompany students under 18 to registration.

Polson Rural Fire District will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 in the library meeting room to review potential building loan rates and make a decision on the nine bids received for  building the new fire station at the Polson Fairgrounds. Joshua Ganesh Pradhan, director of Action International Ministries, India will be sharing his ministry and what is happening in India, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at Polson Foursquare Church. Ganesh is a 1986 graduate of Prairie Bible Institute.

ARK afterschool

An after-school program for kids from six to 12 years old begins at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. for five Wednesdays beginning April 15 and ending May 13. The ARK, after-school respite for kids, will focus on people working for peace.  On Wednesday, April 22, The ARK, after-school respite for kids, will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m., due to early-out for Polson schools. Skin screening

For more information about skin cancer; plan to attend an educational free lecture by Dr. Bill Beck at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The seminar is one of a continuing series of health related lectures held monthly in the St. Joseph Hospital lobby. Polson trustee debate

The Polson Education Association will host a School Board Candidates Forum from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at the Polson High School Library. The candidates for three trustee positions in District 23 are incumbent Brian Havlovick, incumbent Theresa Taylor, incumbent Caryl Cox, William (Bill) Harrington, and Cesar Hernandez. The forum moderator is Polson Middle School teacher Charles Bertsch. Questions submitted by Polson District employees will be asked of all candidates and were made available beforehand.  Candidates will also answer audiences’ questions, as time allows.

Youth home concert

Dog park clean up

Please join Polson Boy Scouts for a clean up of Travis Dolpin Off Leash Dog Park at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 at the entrance to the park. The cleanup will concentrate on the new dock area. Most of the work will be hauling junk metal and glass from the riverbank to the roadway. Please bring gloves, sturdy footware, buckets for glass and trucks for hauling metal. Several artistis, including Julie Moore and Tim Piedalue will have art displayed at the First Annual Starving Artist Show from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Willards in Ronan.

RHS Cabaret

Ronan High School Show Choir  will present Cabaret at 7:30 p.m. on May 7-9 at the Ronan High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, at the door. Celebrate Earth Day and Bike Path Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 25. We are looking for outgrown bikes in working condition to be donated for our event. We will come pick up or you can drop off at Tribal Fitness

Raptor Day

Duck in to Woods Bay for Raptor Day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 25. The Sitting Duck is sponsoring a community Raptor Day which will include raptor biologist Byron Crow discussing raptors and the Falcon research around Big Fork. Also, Byron will be holding a clinic for kids in which they will be able to build their own bird feeders as part of the Fledgling Fun, backyard biologist program. This event is being sponsored by the Montana Raptor Institute for Research & Education and the Sitting Duck and the free and open to the public. Also, there will be live music by Jae Hatt that day at 1pm for the Woods Bay Spring Fling. Polson Kindergarten Roundup

On April 28-29, the Polson School District will be holding Kindergarten Roundup for children who will be five years old by Sept. 10. The Roundup will be at Cherry Valley School, 107 8th Ave. W. Children will be screened for hearing, vision, language and motor skills. Please bring immunization record, birth certificate, and Tribal Enrollment Number, if applicable. Pancake breakfast

The Lake County Council on Aging will host a Pancake Brunch Fundraiser at the Polson Senior Center from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26 featuring biscuits and gravy, ham, scrambled eggs, sausage—and best of all, Aunt Patti’s famous Oatmeal Pancakes. The meal costs $7 for adults and $4 for children under 10.

MVUM festival

Mission Valley United Methodist Church will host a Mission Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. at the church top of Post Creek hill. Reverend Cathy Whitlach will share about her missionary experience in Argentina. A donation for the health kits will be taken.Lunch will be provided. Contact MVUMC 644-0122 for more information.

Ronan Golf for Griz

The annual Golf for Griz Tournament at the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan will be held on Friday, May 22.

The 18-hole tourney, will kick off the action at 11 a.m. The individual player fee will be $90 per golfer. The $90 will cover the golf, barbecue and entry for door prizes. Barbecue only tickets are available for $25 each. All proceeds from the tourney go toward UM Grizzly athlete scholarships. Cherry blossom festival coming

The Yellow Bay Community Club will hold its sixth annual Cherry Blossom Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9,  at the Yellow  Bay clubhouse on Highway 35 (mile marker 18).
