Free Mexican dinner

Mission View Community Fellowship Church would like to invite the community to a free Mexican dinner to be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. This dinner is open to any member of our community. We are located at No. 2 Seventh Ave. East in Polson, across the street from the HCP building on the corner of 7th and Main.

SELAH concert

The home school choir SELAH will present it’s Spring Concert at the New Life Christian Center at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The choir members will sing various duets as well as an a cappella piece called “Home On The Rock,” a sign language song called “Can You Hear Me?” and the popular medley from the “Phantom Of the Opera.” The community is invited to attend and admission is free.

PTSD meetings

Evening Veterans PTSD Talking Circle will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at Salish Kootenai College in Late Louie Caye Memorial Building. Skin cancer screening

For more information about skin cancer; plan to attend an educational free lecture by Dr. Bill Beck at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. The seminar is one of a continuing series of health related lectures held monthly in the St. Joseph Hospital lobby. Also, Western Montana Medical Clinic is hosting a “Lumps and Bumps Day” on April 23-24. You can have that lump evaluated for just $5. Call Western Montana Medical Clinic at 883-5680.

Polson trustee debate

The Polson Education Association will host a School Board Candidates Forum from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at the Polson High School Library. The candidates for three trustee positions in District 23 are incumbent Brian Havlovick, incumbent Theresa Taylor, incumbent Caryl Cox, William (Bill) Harrington, and Cesar Hernandez. The forum moderator is Polson Middle School teacher Charles Bertsch. Questions submitted by Polson District employees will be asked of all candidates and were made available beforehand.  Candidates will also answer audience questions, as time allows.

Youth home concert

U.S. national champion fingerstyle guitarist Chris Proctor will play a show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at the Ronan Performing Arts Center (located in the Ronan Middle School Complex) the event will help support Lake County Youth Homes. Commercial Loan Package class

Lake County Community Development Corporation is hosting a series of business workshops for the business community. You will be connecting live via interactive television to Flathead Valley Community College.  A series of 5 weekly topics will be presented. Hunter education classes

Classes offered in Polson and Ronan. In Ronan: The Hunter Education class for Ronan will be held at the Salish Kootenai College, Beaverhead Building, in Pablo, 6:30-9 p.m., on April 20, 21, 22, and 23. The written test and field course will be held Saturday, April 25.  Contact person is Hunter Education Instructor Matt Wenzel in Ronan, 676-5740. In Polson: The Hunter Education class for Polson will be held on the following schedule: Registration is Monday, April 27, 7 p.m., at the Polson Middle School Cafeteria. Classes are held that evening from 7-9 p.m., and 7-9 p.m. on April 28, 29, 30; May 4, and 5. Written test is May 6, and field course is held on May 9.  Contact person is Hunter Education Instructor Rud Knudsen in Polson, 883-5409.

Social Powwow

A social powwow will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in the Arlee Fitness Center. It is sponsored by Eagle’s Journey, ‘People Helping People.’ There will be free chili, fry bread, cake and beverages served, as well as a Jiu Jitsu demonstration and raffle. Dog park clean up

Please join Polson Boy Scouts for a clean up of Travis Dolpin Off Leash Dog Park at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 at the entrance to the park. The cleanup will concentrate on the new dock area. Most of the work will be hauling junk metal and glass from the riverbank to the roadway. Please bring gloves, sturdy footwear, buckets for glass and trucks for hauling metal. Astronomy Club meeting

“Glass and Mirrors,” how telescope optics work will be the program at the Mission Valley Astronomy Club’s meeting. MVA volunteers needed

Mission Valley Aquatics is looking for people willing to take a shift at the trade fair booth this Saturday, April 25. Please let me know if you are able to give a couple hours of your time. Global Grizzlies benefit

Rob Quist performs a benefit for Global Grizzlies , a UM pre-med service for students traveling to Guatemala. Pancake breakfast

The Lake County Council on Aging will host a Pancake Brunch Fundraiser at the Polson Senior Center from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26 featuring biscuits and gravy, ham, scrambled eggs, sausage - and best of all, Aunt Patti’s famous Oatmeal Pancakes. The meal costs $7 for adults and $4 for children under 10.

Red Poppy Fourth Sunday

On Sunday, April 26, the 4th Sunday Gallery Reception at The Red Poppy will feature the art work of Red Poppy students.  On the stage at 2 p.m. will be LeighAnn Bekemeyer and Debbie Conrad will present a program of music for two Harps. As always, the afternoon is free and open to the public, with a reception following the program. The Red Poppy is open from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday and is located in Ronan at 1st St. SW and Eisenhower.

Dayton Elementary School announces kindergarten roundup from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, April 27. A child is eligible for kindergarten next year if they will be 5 years old on or before September 10, 2009.

Jette Water Meeting Monday

Jette Meadows/Lake County  Water District  board members will review and decide whether to pursue the ‘stimulus’ financing package available from state and local agencies to help pay for  major improvements to  the aging water system at an important meeting of the district board Monday, April 27. Baby Blanket Day

Baby Blanket Day at St. Joseph Medical Center is Tuesday, April 28. St. Joseph Medical Center has for the past several years given a new receiving blanket to every baby born at our hospital. This year our Baby Blanket Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 and you are invited to sew, iron, cut or fold fabric. RHS Cabaret

‘Bella’ showing

 Cornerstone Faith Center in St. Ignatius (516 N. Main), is inviting the public to view the  movie  “Bella “at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1.  Put out by Metanoia Films, it was the winner of the Peoples Choice Award  for the Toronto Film Festival and  took Grand Prize in the Heartland Film Festival. Polson Kindergarten Roundup

On April 28-29, the Polson School District will be holding Kindergarten Roundup for children who will be five years old by Sept. 10. The Roundup will be at Cherry Valley School, 107 8th Ave. W. Children will be screened for hearing, vision, language and motor skills. Please bring immunization record, birth certificate, and Tribal Enrollment Number, if applicable. MM Quilt Guild

The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold its regular May meeting on Tuesday, May 5 at the Ronan Alliance Church. Starting at 5:30 p.m., some of Della Pelley’s fabric will be available for sale at greatly reduced prices.  The quilt show committee will meet at 6 p.m.  Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7:30 p.m. Please bring your completed block of the month (including the photo for the center of the block).  If you do not yet have your photo, please contact Kay Krantz or Cyndy Clairmont.  Also please bring your completed 6” scrappy block, ready to be used as a ribbon for the summer quilt show. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

Quilt Show

Ayleen’s Thursday Quilters will hold their 11th Annual Quilt Show on Wednesday, May 6-8 at the St. Ignatius LDS Church, North Main Street, St. Ignatius. The hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Pat Anderson of Ronan will be the featured quilter. In lieu of admission, we are recommending a donation to the St. Ignatius Senior Center.  There will be daily demonstrations including long arm quilting, yarn quilting, and quilting on home sewing machines. We will also have displays and demonstrations of some of our community projects:  baby blankets for the Ronan and Polson hospitals, nursing cover-ups (hooter hiders) for Tribal Health and the Lake County Breast Feeding Coalition. We enjoy making quilts to be raffled by the St. Ignatius Senior Center (tickets are available at the St. Ignatius Senior Center), as well as quilts for those serving in our military. Look for a list of these organizations at the quilt show. Vote for your favorite quilts on Wednesday and Thursday. Winners will be posted on Friday. Come and see all the beautiful quilts.

Lake County Relay for Life.

This year’s relay will be held on Saturday, June 20, to Sunday, June 21 at the Polson High School Track. Ronan Golf for Griz

The annual Golf for Griz Tournament at the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan will be held on Friday, May 22.

The 18-hole tourney, will kick off the action at 11 a.m. The individual player fee will be $90 per golfer. The $90 will cover the golf, barbecue and entry for door prizes. Barbecue only tickets are available for $25 each. All proceeds from the tourney go toward UM Grizzly athlete scholarships. Planning events

Financial and Estate Planning Seminar will be held at KwaTaqNuk on May 12 featuring Guest Speaker Dr. Marsha A. Goetting a Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist at Montana State University. This seminar is open to the public at no cost. The seminar will cover the control and distribution of a will, how to avoid financial and property probate and more. Plan to attend 1 of 2 sessions offered on Tuesday, May 12: from 2:30-4:30 p.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Polson development code update

Women on the green clinic

Soroptimist International of Polson is sponsoring it’s annual Women on the Green golf clinic from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Polson Bay Golf Course. Clinic events include lunch, golf pro instruction and is limited to 40 participants. Clinic and lunch cost is $75 per participant. Sign up deadline for the clinic is May 13. Annual spring bazaar

The Sacred Heart Parish annual bazaar will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 in Arlee.

Come for a wonderful afternoon of family fun and good foods raffle. Items include quilted wall hanging, $100 in cash, 50 lbs. of beef, music basket with Ipod and accessories. Home School Meeting and Book Exchange

 Mission Valley Home Educators plans to meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1 for a potluck dinner meeting at the New Life Christian Center, 6:00 PM.  Announcements and convention information will be shared, as well as an informal, end-of-the-school-year book exchange.  Those desiring to give away or sell curriculum, books, or other materials may do so at this time.  Otherwise, another book exchange is planned for the fall. Those new to home schooling, veteran home educators, and anyone interested in pursuing the idea of teaching their own children are all invited to participate.
