‘Bella’ showing
Conernstone Faith Center in St. Ignatius (516 N. Main), is inviting the public to view the movie “Bella“ at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1. Put out by Metanoia Films, it was the winner of the Peoples Choice Award for the Toronto Film Festival and took Grand Prize in the Heartland Film Festival. Music At The Hangin Art Gallery and Coffee House on Highway 93 in Arlee at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1 will feature Paul-Mark-Lynn-Lars acoustic original songs.
Home School Meeting and Book Exchange
Mission Valley Home Educators plans to meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1 for a potluck dinner meeting at the New Life Christian Center, 6:00 p.m. Announcements and convention information will be shared, as well as an informal, end-of-the-school-year book exchange. Those desiring to give away or sell curriculum, books, or other materials may do so at this time. Otherwise, another book exchange is planned for the fall. Those new to home schooling, veteran home educators, and anyone interested in pursuing the idea of teaching their own children are all invited to participate. Ronan Author’s Month
The Ronan Friends of the Library is hosting Montana Author’s Month in May. This is a free event, open to the public, 7-9 p.m. so mark your calendars. These readings are suitable for middle school students, high school students as well as adults of all ages. Starving Artist Show
Several artists, including Julie Moore and Tim Piedalue will have art displayed at the First Annual Starving Artist Show from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at Willards in Ronan.
Shamrockers release concert
The official release concert for The ShamRockers new CD, “Just Plain Lucky,” is this Saturday, May 2. Two shows will be presented at the John Dowdall Theatre on the Polson golf course that day, one at 2 p.m., the other at 7 p.m. No reservations are necessary. First-come first-served festival seating is available. The $5 admission price also allows $5 off the cost of a CD.
Ronan spring cleanup
On May 2, the community of Ronan will have the Annual Spring Clean-up Day. Meet at 9 a.m. at City Park to pick up garbage bags and gloves and a map of the area to clean. There will be two construction size box dumpsters donated by Allied Waste available to drop off approved trash items and full trash bags. One dumpster will be located at the City Park near the Fire Hall and the other will be located by the City Park Restrooms. There will also be someone on hand at the dumpsters to provide recycling information and a roving trash pick-up service. Absolutely No kitchen Trash – No Large Appliances – No Tires – No Hazardous Materials. The Chamber will provide the dumpsters, trash bags, rubber gloves, coffee and donuts. Animal Shelter Joins National Adoptothon
Mission Valley Animal Shelter is pleased to announce that they will be holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the shelter in honor of the National Adoptothon Saturday and Sunday May 2-3. Stop by for a treat and see all of the great animals they have including this years’ puppies and kittens. The shelter is located at 36251 No. Reservoir Rd. next to the transfer station. Also, Mission Valley Animal shelter will have extended hours starting Wednesday, May 6. The public is invited to come see the animals looking for forever homes 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Board of Directors members will be on hand Wednesday evenings to answer any questions you might have and show off our addition.
MMW Wine and chocolate
Mission Mountain Winery opens for their 25th season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 with the annual event Red Wine and Chocolate. This is a chance for visitors to learn about the food and wine pairings of various chocolate delights and their corresponding red wines. This free event is a part of the winery’s continuing program to educate the community about the pleasurable synergies created by the pairing of food and wine.

Society meeting

Accordian jam
The Northwest Accordian Association will hold a jam from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 at the Polson Elks Hall.
Mariners game
The Mission Valley Mariners will host their first game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 at the home field in Polson.
MV Horseman Steak Ride
The Mission Valley Back Country Horsemens’ Annual Steak Ride will be on Sunday, May 3. This will be held on the Meuli Ranch at Dayton. As always, it will be a very tasty meal, and a beautiful ride. The cost of the tickets are $20 per person. Saturday night will be a potluck supper at 7 p.m, with overnight camping available. Magic of Jay Owenhouse
The Lake County Sheriff’s Reserves will sponsor the magic of Jay Owenhouse at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 in the Polson Middle School Gym. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-779-8600. All proceeds benefit Lake County Sheriff’s Reserves.
Annual spring bazaar
The Sacred Heart Parish annual bazaar will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 in Arlee.
Come for a wonderful afternoon of family fun and good foods raffle. Items include quilted wall hanging, $100 in cash, 50 lbs. of beef, music basket with Ipod and accessories. Lake County Republican Women meeting
The Lake County Republican Women will meet at noon on Monday, May 4 at Wheat Montana in Polson. There will be a short business meeting followed by a current events discussion. Anyone interested in joining our group is invited to attend. Lunch is available.
Trail System committee
The monthly meeting of the Arlee Community Development Corp.’s Jocko Valley Trails Committee will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 4 in the conference room of the Arlee Tribal Fitness Center. This and all meetings of the committee are open to all and anyone with an interest in helping bring a non-motorized hiking/biking/horseback trail system to the Jocko Valley are encouraged to attend. Agenda items will include further discussion and final preparations for submittal of a grant request to the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program and other such items as may be brought up by attendees.
River Honoring
The 2009 River Honoring begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 4 at the River Honoring site. The public is invited and welcome to attend the opening of the River Honoring. The gathering will begin with an announcement of the 2009 River Honorees. A free barbecue will conclude the community gathering. More than 800 fourth and fifth graders will travel from all across the Reservation on May 5th & 6th to attend the River Honoring. This two-day outdoor environmental education event provides students an opportunity to increase their public awareness, education and community involvement in the preservation of natural and cultural resources along the Lower Flathead River.

MV Horseman meeting
The regular meeting of the Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. This will be a Pot Luck supper. PLEASE NOTE the time and the location of the meeting has changed. It will be held on Moise Valley Road, along the Flathead River, at the location of the River Honoring. Polson development code update

Women on the green clinic
Soroptimist International of Polson is sponsoring it’s annual Women on the Green golf clinic from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Polson Bay Golf Course. Clinic events include lunch, golf pro instruction and is limited to 40 participants. Clinic and lunch cost is $75 per participant. Sign up deadline for the clinic is May 13. MM Quilt Guild
The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold its regular May meeting on Tuesday, May 5 at the Ronan Alliance Church. Starting at 5:30 p.m., some of Della Pelley’s fabric will be available for sale at greatly reduced prices. The quilt show committee will meet at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m., followed by the business meeting at 7:30 p.m. Please bring your completed block of the month (including the photo for the center of the block). If you do not yet have your photo, please contact Kay Krantz or Cyndy Clairmont. Also please bring your completed 6” scrappy block, ready to be used as a ribbon for the summer quilt show. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

Polson High School Driver Education Sign Up
Sign up for Polson High School’s 2008 Spring/Summer Driver Education class will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 6-7. This driver education session will begin on May 19 and end approximately June 30, 2009. Criteria to get into the class is: in-district students first; year in school 2nd; and age 3rd. Those students enrolled in Polson High School should sign up in the high school guidance office while other interested students should contact Harold Lair at 883-6335 ext. 320. Class size will be limited and those who are in the class must have a parent attend an informational meeting before the start of the first class session. Only students who can attend all classes should sign up as there is a strict attendance policy.
Quilt Show
Ayleen’s Thursday Quilters will hold their 11th Annual Quilt Show on Wednesday, May 6-8 at the St. Ignatius LDS Church, North Main Street, St. Ignatius. The hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Pat Anderson of Ronan will be the featured quilter. In lieu of admission, we are recommending a donation to the St. Ignatius Senior Center. There will be daily demonstrations including long arm quilting, yarn quilting, and quilting on home sewing machines. We will also have displays and demonstrations of some of our community projects: baby blankets for the Ronan and Polson hospitals, nursing cover-ups (hooter hiders) for Tribal Health and the Lake County Breast Feeding Coalition. We enjoy making quilts to be raffled by the St. Ignatius Senior Center (tickets are available at the St. Ignatius Senior Center), as well as quilts for those serving in our military. Look for a list of these organizations at the quilt show. Vote for your favorite quilts on Wednesday and Thursday. Winners will be posted on Friday. Come and see all the beautiful quilts.
Community dance
Western night is the theme for the dance at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at the Elks in Polson. This is the place to be if you have a flair for tango, swing, cha cha or polka, this is the place to be. Heart to Heart will play, bring your friends and sweethearts.

RMS Honor Pass fundraiser
The Eighth Grade Honor Pass students invite the public to a barbeque fundraiser from 5:30- 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8. The dinner is on a free will donation basis, with the proceeds going to help fund the Honor Pass Field trip. At this time they need to raise $2,300 before May 31. The students are required to achieve honor roll status three of the four quarters and write an essay to be eligible to participate.
Lake County Republican Meeting
Lake County Republican committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at the Miracle Of America Musuem, 36094 Memory Lane, Polson. We will be having the Republican Central committee annual county covention for the election of officers. Everyone welcome. Check our website lcrmt.org
RHS show choir
The Ronan High School Show Choir will present the 27th Annual Cabaret on Thursday through Saturday, May 7-9 in the Ronan Performing Arts Center. The doors will open at 6:50 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seat tickets ($10 for adults and $5 for students) are on sale in the Ronan Middle School office, or you may call for reservations at 676-3390 extension 3400. General admission tickets will be sold at the door each night beginning at 6:30 p.m. for the same price.

Run for Education
It’s time again for the 5k/1mile, Run for Education, on Saturday, May 9. This is the 4th annual scholarship fundraiser for graduating seniors from St. Ignatius High School. It is fun for all ages and levels! Dixon School Reunion
The second annual Dixon School Reunion Social is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23 at the Best Western KwaTukNaq Casino Resort in Polson. A limited luncheon menu is being planned for those who are hungry OR, if not hungry, just stop by and say “Hello.”

Birth class
The next St. Luke comprehensive one-day childbirth education class will be held Saturday, May 9. St. Luke Certified Childbirth Educator Linda Cox will help moms-to-be with important information on pregnancy, labor, and the birth process. The class from 8am to 5pm includes instructions for Lamaze breathing and relaxation techniques, stress management, and infant CPR among other things.

St. Andrew’s rummage sale
St. Andrew’s Spring Rummage Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8 and from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. $3 per bag sale.
RHS Cabaret
Ronan High School Show Choir will present Cabaret at 7:30 p.m. on May 7-9 at the Ronan High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, at the door. Thrivent Benefit for Infant
There will be a Thrivent sponsored ham dinner and silent auction from 5:30- 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8 at the St. Ignatius Senior Citizen’s Center. Meal tickets are $6 for adults and $20 for a family. The meal will include ham, potatoe dishes, vegetable and dessert. Beverages will be punch, coffee and water. The benefit is for Allan (Detert) Stavem, grandson of Jim Detert and great-grandson of Herman and Hazel Detert. Allan was born prematurely and has had numerous surgeries including, heart surgery, blood vessel realignment from lungs to heart, eye surgery and others. Any financial help would be appreciated. “Mission Valley Rumble” Youth Boxing Friday Night Fights in St. Ignatius will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 5. at the Community center in St. Ignatius. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Interested Fighters can pick up their entrance forms at Stuarts Napa in St. Ignatius, weigh-ins will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21.
Tax shred day
Community Bank will be hosting their second annual Community After-Tax Shred Day on Friday, May 22. Every day someone is a victim of identity theft. To protect you from this fast growing consumer fraud, a mobile shredding truck will be at our two locations to shred two- file sized boxes of your personal documents. Polson Bike/Walk/Work
Polson Mayor Marchello Proclaims Bike and Walk to Work Day will be Friday, May 15. Help us celebrate national bike month by riding your bike or walking to work on this day. Marchello urges everyone to bike or walk to work for fun and fitness as well as cheap transportation. On the morning of May 15, participating cyclists and walkers should stop by St. Joseph Medical Center lobby to sign up for the Bike to Work Day drawings. There will also be drawings and a light breakfast served at Linderman and Cherry Valley Schools for the participating children.
Lake County Relay for Life.
This year’s relay will be held on Saturday, June 20, to Sunday, June 21 at the Polson High School Track. Prior to the opening ceremony, all cancer survivors are invited to a reception celebrating life beginning at 4:30 p.m. From the reception the survivors will be gathered for a survivor photo at 5:45 p.m. If you would like to participate in the Relay, please complete the form below and mail to the address provided or call Gayle Wilhelm, 471-1452 or Etta Moore, 883-3077 with your information.
Ronan Golf for Griz
The annual Golf for Griz Tournament at the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan will be held on Friday, May 22.
The 18-hole tourney, will kick off the action at 11 a.m. The individual player fee will be $90 per golfer. The $90 will cover the golf, barbecue and entry for door prizes. Barbecue only tickets are available for $25 each. All proceeds from the tourney go toward UM Grizzly athlete scholarships. Planning events
Financial and Estate Planning Seminar will be held at KwaTaqNuk on May 12 featuring Guest Speaker Dr. Marsha A. Goetting a Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist at Montana State University. This seminar is open to the public at no cost. The seminar will cover the control and distribution of a will, how to avoid financial and property probate and more. Plan to attend 1 of 2 sessions offered on Tuesday, May 12: from 2:30-4:30 p.m. or 6:30-8:30 p.m.
MVUMC Spring carnival
Grab the kids and meet us at The Mission Valley United Methodist Church 70715 Hwy 93 top of Post Creek hill from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 for free games, drinks, food and fun. Adults and Kids can enter a wide range of activies and everyone is welcome.
Community Flea Market
Vendors are invited to take part in a Community Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June. 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Polson, 301 16th Ave. E.
Creators of crafts, quilts, jewelry, and other items are invited along with vendors of slightly used treasures, books, antiques, household bric-a-brac, furniture, tools, sports equipment, etc. to rent a space at the market. Proceeds from this event fund church outreach and mission projects. For a registration form or more information call Irene at 883-2063.

The Greater Polson Community Foundation has finalized its plans to introduce granting opportunities to interested non-profits.
A hosted luncheon will take place Friday, May 22, at the Papa Don’s Restaurant now located in the lower level of the Polson Golf Course. Anyone interested is asked to call 883-2248 right now, due to limited seating. A brochure, directions on how to download the application, will be mailed to screened applicants by May 1.
