Charlo student/athlete meeting
Charlo High School will hold a mandatory parent and student/athlete meeting for those playing volleyball and football this fall. The meeting is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13 in the gym. If you have questions you can contact Steve Love at 644-3629 or Clair Rasmussen at 241-4337.
Student exchange fiesta
PHS student Amy Venters is holding a Fiesta Cantina Dinner from 5-9 p.m. on Aug.13 at Glacier Brewery as a fundraiser for an exchange student trip to South America. There will be local bands playing, a taco bar and a silent auction going on in the beer garden. The admission is $10.

Ninepipes concert
Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana’s summer social event will be held on Friday, Aug. 14. Featuring an outdoor concert with Out of the Blue, Tim Ryan and members of the Mission Mountain Wood Band. Tickets can be purchased at the Ninepipes Museum or Lodge on U. S. Highway 93, or by calling 644-3435. Entrance will be $15 for 12 years and older; $25 per couple; 11 and under are free. The museum will be open for all ticket holders until 7 p.m. A barbecue with soda, beer and wine will be held for those who wish to purchase from 5:30-7 p.m. You are invited to bring your own seating if you wish. Free dinner
Have dinner with us on Aug. 14 and the second Friday night of each month at our Friendship Table. Everyone in the community is welcome. Bring your friends; enjoy a hearty meal and fellowship from 5-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church, 301 4th Avenue East (across from the main entrance to Linderman School).

Clothes For Kids
School clothing for children 8 years-old and younger will be available in the gym at Pablo Christian Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15. There will be no charge for the clothing. Some school supplies will also be available.
Wine Fest
Soroptimist International of Polson announces that its 25th anniversary Winefest is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug., 15. Each year the Wine Festival is held in conjunction with the Polson Fly-in at the Polson Airport. There will be live music by the superb Little Big Band. Of course, there will be wonderful wines. As a matter of fact there will be over thirty-six different wines from around the world, plus tantalizing cuisine from local area restaurants.
DOVES scramble
The Fifth Annual DOVES Golf Scramble will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Silver Fox Golf Course on the Salish Kootenai College campus in Pablo. The Golf Scramble is DOVES’ annual fundraiser, and will feature 18 holes, a barbecue lunch and a variety of prizes donated by local businesses. Call DOVES at 883-3350 to register for the Scramble or stop by Silver Fox Golf Course and speak with Mark. The event begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and concludes with lunch and awards.

Sunday in the Park
Please join us this Sunday, Aug. 16, at Boettcher Park, Pavilion 3, for a potluck picnic and singing. The picnic will begin at 1 p.m. We’d love to see you there.
Patti Lee concert
The Pablo Church of The Nazarene will we hosting World Vision Artist, singer and songwriter Patti Lee in concert for the worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. Everyone is invited, a freewill offering will be received. The church is located on Old Highway 93 south of Pablo. Call 675-0081 for more information.

The monthly meeting of Polson VFW 2986 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 at the VFW Hall 423 Main St. in Polson.
Homesteaders talk
Polson Flathead Historical Museum will host “Life of Early Homesteaders” with Jessie Clements, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17. Clements is a knowledgeable woman who has numerous stories about what life was like for new settlers and has collected historical objects from the era.
Bowling teams forming
Mission Valley USBC is holding its annual fall meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 at Lucky Strike Lanes in Ronan. Anyone wishing to join a team or who wants to sub is encouraged to attend.

The upcoming suicide oversight meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the Lake County Health Building in Polson at 802 Main St.

Susie Hanson Ice Cream Social
The Susie Hanson Ice Cream Social at St. Luke Extended Care in Ronan is a one-of-a-kind, end-of-the-summer social gathering that draws attendees and support from the entire community. This year’s social is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, drawing residents of St. Luke Extended Care, their family and friends to the St. Luke courtyard for music, fun and food.

Lion King bus
Community Bank is sponsoring a trip to the Saturday evening, Dec. 5 performance of Broadway’s Award-Winning Best Musical “The Lion King.” The seating for the play will be in the orchestra section rows 10-13. Overnight accommodations will be at Spokane’s premier hotels, The Davenport. The bus will depart at Community Bank in Polson at 8:30 a.m., Ronan 9 at a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 and return Dec. 6. Planning board position open
The Lake County Planning Board currently has one opening to complete a term that expires on Jan. 31, 2010. This board is comprised of volunteers who advise the Lake County Commissioners on planning issues, which typically include subdivisions and zoning regulations. The board regularly meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. to review and make recommendations to the county commissioners. Applicants must be a current resident of Lake County. Areas in particular need of representation include Valley View and Charlo. Applications may be submitted to the Lake County Planning Dept by Tuesday, Aug. 25. The application should include a letter of interest and brief background history detailing experience relevant to the review of land use and growth management issues. Applications should be sent to the Lake County Planning Department at 106 4th Avenue East, Polson, MT 59860, by fax at 883-7205, or to w.gov.
Jocko Library summer end
Summer is winding down, and so too are the events at Jocko Valley Library of Arlee. Due to lack of participation, we are sorry to say that our last two Summer Reading Program events scheduled for August are canceled. The Summer Reading Program will wrap up with a barbecue/awards event on the lawn outside the library building at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22. All participants and families are invited. To be eligible for prizes, participants MUST turn in their reading logs to the library by the week of Aug. 17-21. Prizes will be awarded ONLY to readers who turn in their reading logs. Our hours will change also at the library, beginning in September. Watch for those postings coming soon. Dixon Melon Days
Dixon Melon Days will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28-29 in Dixon. Plan on coming to our little town on scenic Montanan Highway 200 for breakfast, from 7-10 a.m. and/or lunch, from 12:30-3 p.m., at the Senior Center on Saturday. Healing Rooms open
The Healing Rooms of the Mission Valley has reopened in the former location, the Tribal Headstart Building, 307 South Main, St. Ignatius. This is the white building on the east side of Main Street just south of the Mission Bridge. Hours are 3-7 p.m. every Friday. No appointment is needed and there is no charge. All encounters are completely private and confidential in a comfortable setting, with at least two volunteers in the room. The sessions are usually from 15 minutes to one half hour. Everyone is welcome.
Polson Booster Bricks
Polson Booster Club personalized bricks make great graduation gifts or personal recognition for any school activity. If you would like to memorialize someone in a very special way, look for our brick application forms at any of the Polson banks, the Polson Library, or the Polson High School. There are two sizes of bricks to choose from. Engraved bricks line the walkways of the Polson High School Athletic Complex.
Rotary chili cookoff
Polson Rotary Club’s annual chili cookoff will take place at Riverside Park in Polson on Aug. 29. The competition is open to all who want to cook their best wildcat chili in this event. Entry fee is $100 per team with all proceeds going to fund new facilities for the Polson Youth Soccer Association. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first three places. Call Francis Davidson at 883-1651 to get a registration and rules packet.
Oncology fundraiser
Glacier Brewing Company in Polson will be hosting local artist Matt Holmes during the month of August. Original works of art will be available for sale with part of the proceeds benefiting renovations to St. Joe’s oncology ward. Everyone is encouraged to swing by for a viewing and cool yourself down during the hot summer months.
Local art opening
Polson residents and Sandpiper Gallery members Andrew Speer and Mary Kelley will be featured artists for the month of August at paint, metal and mud artists coop in the Grand Hotel Building in Kalispell. The show will feature Andrew’s carved birds and Mary’s oil paintings in a “Summer in Montana” theme. Reception for the artists will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug 13, with wine, cheese and music.
Tai Chi offered free
The Arthritis Foundation’s Tai Chi Program is now being offered at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson. Pre-registration for the Arthritis Foundation’s Tai Chi Program is necessary and enrollment is limited. The second session of the Polson Tai Chi Program is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays from July 21 through August 25 at Good Shepherd Luther Church, 409 4th Ave in Polson. Before starting any exercise program, always check with your physician.
Recycling available
Mission High School now has a recycling trailer for your newspaper and magazine recycling, it is located right at the high school in St. Ignatius. The Folkshop in St. Ignatius also takes aluminum can donations. It provides a job for a disabled employee. Just drop them off at the Folkshop.
Little Lambs preschool
Little Lambs is accepting 4 and 5-year-olds to begin school on Thursday, Aug. 27. Stop by for a facility tour or call 676-8283 for more information.
PEO crab crack
Tickets are on sale now for the third annual PEO Chapter BY sponsored Crab Crack scheduled from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Glacier Brewery in Polson. The crab crack raises money to help women finance their education through scholarships and low interest loans. Tickets are $25 per person and include crab, potatoes, Cole slaw, lemonade and dessert. Beer will be sold separately. Attendees are asked to bring their own crab cracking tools. The public is invited to purchase tickets at First Citizens Bank in Polson or by calling 883-1676. A limited number of tickets are available; any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
Line Dancing

CPR/AED training
American Red Cross wil be offering CPR/AED traingin from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Glacier View Christian School in Ronan. For reservations call Lorraine S. Frost, RN at 676-3500.
