Polson Bike/Walk/Work

Polson Mayor Marchello Proclaims Bike and Walk to Work Day will be Friday, May 15. Help us celebrate national bike month by riding your bike or walking to work on this day. Marchello urges everyone to bike or walk to work for fun and fitness as well as cheap transportation. On the morning of May 15, participating cyclists and walkers should stop by St. Joseph Medical Center lobby to sign up for the Bike to Work Day drawings. There will also be drawings and a light breakfast served at Linderman and Cherry Valley Schools for the participating children.

Ronan library MT authors

On Friday, May 15 Kat Martin will read from “The Summit” and “Season of Strangers.” On Saturday, May 16 Brian Butler will read from “Engrams” and “Chocan” at the free event from 7-9 p.m. at the Ronan Library.

St. Joe birthing classes

St. Joseph Medical Center is sponsoring our two-day session of Childbirth Preparation Classes from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, May 15 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. Deveer Show

On Friday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Deveer Designs fused glass jewelry will hold a one day only sale at Rod’s Harvest Foods in St. Ignatius. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter. Deveer Designs fused glass jewelry is made locally and sold nationwide. Dr. Ann Perkins visits Big Arm

Big Arm Association’s Potluck and presentation will at at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15 at the Big Arm Fire Hall. Don’t miss the remarkable Dr. Ann Perkins with a presentation on the Human-Animal Bond program at Carroll College which she founded and fostered in putting Montana on the map. Please bring your favorite dish, family and friends. Also, on May 23 visit the Doll Show our first event in the Big Arm historic school. The incredibly unbelievable doll houses and Santa’s by Barbara Wamsley of Charlo will knock your socks off. We will be featuring antique dolls and furniture in the schoolhouse and the doll houses, and the tea room will be in the community room of the fire hall. BG Club scramble

Mission Mountain Golf Course, Reser’s Fine Foods and Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County will host the fourth annual Boys  Girls Club Golf Scramble on May 16. Competition starts with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. A meal is provided with team registrations which will be taken up until T time. Proceeds for the event are used to help with the summer activities and programs offered at the Boys & Girls club. Gospel Echoes prison ministry

Everyone is invited to an evening of fellowship with the Gospel Echoes team on Saturday, May 16 at the Ronan Community Center. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by music and singing from the Gospel Echoes Northwest Team, testimonies by former inmates, and guest speaker Chaplain George Holley. Arlee CDC

The Arlee Community Development Corporation will be holding its annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16 at the Arlee Salish Senior Center. Youth home show

LC Democrats meeting

The Lake County Democrats will meet on Wednesday, May 20 to hold its biennial election of Lake County Party Officers. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments at 6 p.m. and held at the Salish Kootenai College in Room 107 of the Michel Building. Please remember to bring items for the food pantry. Suzanne Luepke, chair of the Lake County Democrats, Pete Daniels, vice chair,  Pat Cross, secretary and Judith Bromley, treasurer, are stepping down from their respective offices as of May 20, when the election of new officers will take place.

Suicide Oversight meetings

Suicide Oversight Meetings are held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the PACHE Community Center in Ronan. Go east on Terrace Lake Road-turn right on Beaverhead Lane.  Look for the beige double-wide on the right side about mile south on Beaverhead Lane.

Health care discussion

Lake County residents will have the opportunity to hear some health care providers present their perspectives on what is needed to provide a workable reform in health care delivery. Come to a non-partisan discussion of “The Many Facets of Health Care Reform” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the Polson Library meeting room.

Tax shred day

Community Bank will be hosting their second annual Community After-Tax Shred Day on Friday, May 22. Every day someone is a victim of identity theft. To protect you from this fast growing consumer fraud, a mobile shredding truck will be at our two locations to shred   two- file sized boxes of your personal documents. Spring Showcase and dance

Family Matters and Mission Valley Dance will be holding a Spring Showcase for the community at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 23 at 203

3rd Avenue East (same building as driver licensing). The evening will feature dance, music and song for the whole family. A cake auction will be held and after performance, live music will be played. Sound of Music opening

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” is the annual Mission Valley spring production. Zen class

USDA development meetings

USDA Rural Development field staff will be open for one-on-one appointments in the Ronan USDA Farm Services Agency office (64352 U.S. Highway 93) from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Ballfied volunteers needed

Polson Foursquare Church is making a ballfield to be offered to the community. If needs volunteers who can donate their time to help rake rocks and prepare the soil for grass seed planting in the next two weeks. Please call 883-9347 if you can help.

Spay/Neuter clinic

Youth Boxing

“Mission Valley Rumble” Youth Boxing Friday Night Fights in St. Ignatius will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 5. at the Community center in St. Ignatius. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Interested Fighters can pick up their entrance forms at Stuarts Napa in St. Ignatius, weigh-ins will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21.

Aquatic Nuisance meeting

Eileen Ryce, aquatic nuisance specialist coordinator for Montana FWP, will be meeting with the CSKT Tribal Council and other interested parties at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the Tribal Council Chambers in Pablo.Discussion will center on the issue of prevention and control of aquatic nuisance species both statewide and in the Flathead basin.

St. Ignatius board vacancy

Golf for Griz

University of Montana Football Head Coach Bobby Hauck and many other UM Grizzly athletic coaches and staff will play golf and then give reports on their programs following the Annual Golf for Griz Tournament in Ronan May 22. Individaul player fee is $90 per golfer, the same as last year. There is no team fee. The $90 will cover the golf, barbecue and entry for door prizes. Barbecue only tickets are available for $25 each. All proceeds from the tourney go toward UM Grizzly athlete scholarships. MV Mariners clinic

 The Mission Valley Mariners American Legion Baseball team will be holding their annual Baseball Camp and Coaches Clinc at American Legion Field on Saturday, May 30 at O’Malley Park in Polson.The camp will start at 8:30 a.m. to noon, check in at 8 a.m. Not only will the participants receive baseball instruction, they will also receive a T-shirt, Lunch and admission into the Mariner’s game that starts at 1 p.m. with the Libby Loggers. Open to players age 7 to 18 and all coaches. Fee is $35 for players and free for coaches. Please register prior to May 26 if possible, but not necessary. Call 250-5753 for more information.

Women 4 Wellness fair

A free health fair for women will be held from 10 a.m .to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center. Numerous free screenings and testing, as well as presentations will be available.

Circle of Trust

The Circle of Trust Survivors of Suicide Talking circle meets from 7-9 p.m. every Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital. Anyone and everyone who would like to come and shair thoughts and feelings in a safe, warm and confidential environment is invited.

Plant, seed sale and swap

Bring your extra starts, seeds, perennial separations, bulbs, etc. to the FIRST annual plant swap on Memorial Day, on May 30 after the noon parade until about 4 p.m. at the Aware Wellness Center, 601 4th Ave East. If you have a lot to share please bring in the A.M. Please bring extra flats, small boxes, and pots to recycle and take home. Garden’s Alliance will have free gardening classes all afternoon, music, food and great community cheer. We are fundraising for the new two community gardens in the works, and for the zoning change applications to allow hens within city limits. Boys and Girls Club applications

This year, after a week of renovation, the club will open for the summer on June 15 and run weekdays for 50 days ending on August 21.  The doors open at noon and programs and activities will be available up until 6 p.m.  Friday teen hours from 6-9 p.m. will be posted for those 12 and older who want to participate. All club members must have a current application information for 2009 completed before attending.

Club members from Polson and Pablo will be able to ride a bus that leaves Cherry Valley parking lot in Polson at 12:3 p.m. every week day, except July 3, during the summer session. It will pick up club members at Pablo Elementary School before arriving at the Ronan club site. The bus then leaves the Ronan site at 5 p.m. dropping off the Pablo members and returning to Polson by approximately 5:30 p.m.

Children 6 years to 18 years old that choose to take advantage of the summer program from Polson or Pablo need to be registered as club members prior to riding the bus.  Many Polson members are already registered if they attend the Friday After-School/BGC sessions at Linderman School. Applications are available at the Polson After- School/Boys & Girls Club Program, the club in Ronan or on the website at http://www.bgclynx.org.

Flea market vendors needed

Vendors are invited to take part in a Community Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June. 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Polson, 301 16th Ave. E.

Creators of crafts, quilts, jewelry, and other items are invited along with vendors of slightly used treasures, books, antiques, household bric-a-brac, furniture, tools, sports equipment, etc. to rent a space at the market.Vendors can rent spaces for $20 indoors and $15 outdoors. Outdoor spaces are available in the parking lot or on the lawn. Proceeds from this event fund church outreach and mission projects.  Jocko Valley Community Library of Arlee Launches Summer Reading Program, “Be Creative @ Your Library” this summer at the Jocko Valley Library and explore the worlds of music, dance, art, books, and more. The 2009 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prizes, story hours, a reading club for teens, and more. Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on June 3. Our summer hours beginning June 8 are as follows: Monday through Friday - 10a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday - 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call the library at 726-3572. Polson city coucil spots

July 2 is the filing deadline for the September 15 primary elections. Qualifications for a place on the ballot are: the person must be 18 years of age or older; a citizen of Montana; and a qualified elector (pursuant to Article IV, Section 2 of the Montana Constitution) who has resided in City limits for more than one year. Councilmember’s must reside within the ward they seek to represent at the time of their election and during the entire term of office. The term is four-year with one seat in each ward, which will be eligible for election in the 2010–2013 term. In addition, the second seat in Ward 2, currently occupied by Mr. Clavadetscher by appointment, is also up for election in this year, which was filled to compensate for the unexpired portion of Mr. Jones’ term.

The elections are nonpartisan. The top two vote-getters for each seat in the primary will face off in a general election in November and the newly elected members will take office in January 2010. Filing for these offices commences on May 4 at the Lake County Elections Office at the Courthouse.
