Golf for Griz
University of Montana Football Head Coach Bobby Hauck and many other UM Grizzly athletic coaches and staff will play golf and then give reports on their programs following the Annual Golf for Griz Tournament in Ronan on Friday, May 22. Individual player fee is $90 per golfer, the same as last year. There is no team fee. The $90 will cover the golf, barbecue and entry for door prizes. Barbecue only tickets are available for $25 each. Sound of Music opening
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” is the annual Mission Valley spring production.Complimenting The Port Polson Players 34th season, this beloved musical plays at the John Dowdall Theatre May 22-24 and May 29-31, with curtain times at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Reservations are advised by calling the box office at 883-9212 or by e-mail at portpolsonplayers@centurytel.net.
USDA development meetings

Community Bank will be hosting their second annual Community After-Tax Shred Day on Friday, May 22. Every day someone is a victim of identity theft. To protect you from this fast growing consumer fraud, a mobile shredding truck will be at our two locations to shred two- file sized boxes of your personal documents. Music At The Hangin Art Gallery and Coffee House on U.S. Highway 93 in Arlee will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22. It will feature bluegrass from The Gravely Mountain Boys.

Big Arm doll show
More than 500 dolls will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 23 in the Big Arm historic school house. This will be the first time in decades that the school has been open to the public. Trish Friez will display her “Dolls from the Heart” collection to raise money for the restoration of the historic Big Arm School. Across the street in the Big Arm Fire Hall, Barbara Wamsley of Charlo will display her unbelievable dollhouses and Santas. Also Tea and Goodies can be purchased. If Dolls are not your “cup of tea” visit with Big Arm Firefighters and look over the firefighting vehicles and equipment. Doll Show Tickets cost $4 and $2 for children under 10 years old. Spring Showcase and dance
Family Matters and Mission Valley Dance will be holding a Spring Showcase for the community at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 23 at 203 3rd Avenue East (same building as driver licensing). The evening will feature dance, music and song for the whole family. A cake auction will be held and after performance, live music will be played. The cost is $5 per person or $20 for the family. National Bison Range turns 101
The Visitor Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Visitors are asked to stop at the Center to pay fees. A $5 per car fee is charged for use of the drives and a season pass is available for $15. Also, maps and current information is available at the Visitor Center. There is no charge for the Visitor Center and Day Use Area or for educational groups. Please call the National Bison Range at 644-2211 ext. 201 for further information and activities.

Red Poppy fourth anniversary
The Red Poppy will celebrate its Fourth Anniversary by featuring the work of art and pottery teacher, Olivia Lynn Olsen. Her works will be on display in the gallery until the fourth week in June. On the stage at 2 p.m., the students of Kira McLeod and Julia Roberts will present a dance recital. As always, the afternoon is free and open to the public, with a reception following the program.
The gallery will be open from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, and is located in Ronan at 1st St. SW and Eisenhower (on Highway 93, South stoplight, across from True Value Hardware). Rockies Museum
opening
The Garden of the Rockies Museum will be open for the season on Monday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekends by appointment. For weekend appointments call 676-5454.
The Honor Society will be serving ice cream and cookies 12-2 p.m. on opening day. The Museum is in need of sitters. Sitters can do either half days or full days. You can bring a friend to sit with you. Anyone interested can call Velma at 676-5454.
Next meeting of the Heritage Association will be at 2 p.m. on Wed., June 10 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Center. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Health care discussion
Lake County residents will have the opportunity to hear some health care providers present their perspectives on what is needed to provide a workable reform in health care delivery. Come to a non-partisan discussion of “The Many Facets of Health Care Reform” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the Polson Library meeting room.
Aquatic Nuisance meeting
Eileen Ryce, aquatic nuisance specialist coordinator for Montana FWP, will be meeting with the CSKT Tribal Council and other interested parties at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26 at the Tribal Council Chambers in Pablo.Discussion will center on the issue of prevention and control of aquatic nuisance species both statewide and in the Flathead basin.
Lake County Professional Women meeting

Richwine benefit
If you know Shane Richwine or have ever eaten at Bargersville. If the “OPEN” sign in his window has ever given you a glimmer of hope that summer is coming, and his “CLOSED” sign makes your heart sink that summer is over, if you have ever had one of his home made fries melt in your mouth, inhaled a Royal Burger, or thought to yourself “Boy, I’d hate to be the sorry sucker who has to cut up and poke ALL those veggies on those toothpicks,” then Shane has touched your heart in some small way, and now it is our turn to touch him back. Shane’s classmates are currently organizing a benefit on Sunday, May 31 at the Elk’s Lodge. They need volunteers to work as cooks, dishwashers, servers and prep assistants. Carolyn Bailey has a sign-up sheet and tiemes to help. Visit her at Town Pump (in back) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to sign up or call 883-5449. Also, there will be a silent auction and bak sale during the event. Donations are greatly appreciated.
Ballfied volunteers needed
Polson Foursquare Church is making a ballfield to be offered to the community. If needs volunteeres who can donate their time to help rake rocks and preare the soil for grass seed planting in the next two weeks. Please call 883-9347 if you can help.

Youth Boxing
“Mission Valley Rumble” Youth Boxing Friday Night Fights in St. Ignatius will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 5. at the Community center in St. Ignatius. Tickets range from $15 to $25. Interested Fighters can pick up their entrance forms at Stuarts Napa in St. Ignatius, weigh-ins will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21.
Dance classes continue
The Ladies of the Lake Oriental Dancers Club continues through the summer. Monday is Tahitian and Hula from 5:30-7 p.m on Wednesday is Belly Dance from 5:30-7 p.m. and Friday is drumming etc. No experience necessary. Call Dolores for more information at 883-0554.

Area VI Agency on Aging will help seniors with the digital TV transition that will take place in June. The group can help you assess your need for a converter box, apply for a government coupon to buy a convert box and help with installation and troubleshooting if you have problems with the converter box. Crockett’s Rockets Camp 2009
The Crockett’s Rockets basketball camp will be held July 21-23 (Tuesday-Thursday). Players attending this camp will learn and improve many different skills for their games. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8 (2008-2009 school year). Grades 1-4 will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Grades 5-8 will meet from 2-5 p.m.
Cost of the camp is $25. This will include a camp shirt and an individual award plaque. The “early” registration deadline is Friday, May 29. If you have any questions, contact Coach Phillips at home, 745-4130, or at work, 745-3811, ext. 232.

Polson tennis league forming
The Polson Tennis League is forming a round robin tennis league in Polson area now. The League will provide palyers organized doubles or singles play and a schedule with a match to play each week. The league will run for six weeks starting on June 16 and ending July 27. There is no cost. Any level of player nineteen years or older is welcome to join. This tennis league takes the guess work out of knowing when your next match will be. In addition, it allows you to meet new players. There will be an informational meeting and sign-up at PilatesPlus, 220 Main St. Suite C behind Page-by-Page Books on Thursday, June 5 at 7 pm. Mission Mountain Quilt Guild
The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will hold their regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at the Ronan Christian Alliance Church on Terrace Lake Road. This meeting will start with a pot luck dinner, followed by membership renewals for the 2009-2010 year and Brown Bag Auction, which is one of our annual fundraisers, this is lots of fun. The auction is where members and guests donate good quality items that are no longer needed, such as unfinished projects, better know as UFOs, or other quilting related things, wrapped up in a “brown” paper bag, and marked with a little saying or poem that gives a slight hint about the contents. The bags are then auctioned off. The more participants, the more fun we have with the auction. Those individuals joining or renewing their membership will receive their Block of the Month fabric packets. Tickets will be available for this year’s raffle quilt, which will be raffled off at the quilt show in August. Guests are always welcome at the meetings.
Remember the quilt show, July 30- 31, and August 1 at the Ronan High School gym. There is a big change in processing entries this year. Quilts will only be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school gym, on Tuesday, July 28. Anyone is welcome to enter a quilt in the quilt show. Entry forms will be available at All in Stitches and from Guild members.
Martial arts and gymnastic classes
Summer gymnastic classes for girls will be starting on June 12. The classes will run from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. on Fridays. Basic martial arts classes (ages 3-7) will begin on June 10. Classes will run from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. For more information call 270-1386.
Polson junior golf camp
The Polson Junior Golf Camp will run from June 10-13. The free camp is open to kids entering grades first through eighth and will provide quality instruct ion to area youth, including three days of instruction, pitch, putt and drive contest (on Saturday, June 13) and a potluck barbecue. MV Mariners clinic
The Mission Valley Mariners American Legion Baseball team will be holding their annual Baseball Camp and Coaches Clinc at American Legion Field on Saturday, May 30 at O’Malley Park in Polson.The camp will start at 8:30 a.m. to noon, check in at 8 a.m. Not only will the participants receive baseball instruction, they will also receive a T-shirt, Lunch and admission into the Mariner’s game that starts at 1 p.m. with the Libby Loggers. The Circle of Trust Survivors of Suicide Talking circle meets from 7-9 p.m. every Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital. Anyone and everyone who would like to come and shair thoughts and feelings in a safe, warm and confidential environment is invited.
Plant, seed sale and swap
Bring your extra starts, seeds, perennial separations, bulbs, etc. to the FIRST annual plant swap on May 30 after the noon parade until about 4 p.m. at the Aware Wellness Center, 601 4th Ave East. If you have a lot to share please bring in the A.M. Please bring extra flats, small boxes, and pots to recycle and take home. Garden’s Alliance will have free gardening classes all afternoon, music, food and great community cheer. We are fundraising for the new two community gardens in the works, and for the zoning change applications to allow hens within city limits. Creators of crafts, quilts, jewelry, and other items are invited along with vendors of slightly used treasures, books, antiques, household bric-a-brac, furniture, tools, sports equipment, etc. to rent a space at the market.Vendors can rent spaces for $20 indoors and $15 outdoors. Polson city coucil spots
July 2 is the filing deadline for the September 15 primary elections. Qualifications for a place on the ballot are: the person must be 18 years of age or older; a citizen of Montana; and a qualified elector (pursuant to Article IV, Section 2 of the Montana Constitution) who has resided in City limits for more than one year. Councilmember’s must reside within the ward they seek to represent at the time of their election and during the entire term of office. The term is four-year with one seat in each ward, which will be eligible for election in the 2010–2013 term. In addition, the second seat in Ward 2, currently occupied by Mr. Clavadetscher by appointment, is also up for election in this year, which was filled to compensate for the unexpired portion of Mr. Jones’ term.
The elections are nonpartisan. The top two vote-getters for each seat in the primary will face off in a general election in November and the newly elected members will take office in January 2010. Filing for these offices commences on May 4 at the Lake County Elections Office at the Courthouse.

DOVES empowerment program
DOVES is sponsoring an outdoor adventure in connection with its girls empowerment program, Birds of a Feather, on Tuesday, June 16. DOVES will take girls to the ropes course in Missoula for a fun day of exercise, team building, and fun. This event will be for participants of the Birds of a Feather program and other girls who want to join as well. The cost is only $10 and includes transportation to and from the event as well as lunch. A van will leave from the CSKT Victim Assistance Program parking lot in Pablo at 8:45 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m.
