'Self defense' claimed in shooting
RONAN — An overall quiet, peaceful Memorial Day weekend came to an end for local law enforcement Monday night as they received a call from a father stating that he had just shot his son to break up an ongoing domestic incident.
Lake County Undersheriff Jay Doyle reported that the call came in at 11:02 p.m. for the shooting incident on Canal Road in Ronan. Doyle said 65-year-old Leslie Buck Sr. claimed self-defense for shooting his 35-year-old son Albert Buck in the leg to stop the man from fighting with his other son, 42-year-old Leslie Buck Jr.
The father explained to authorities that both brothers were visiting from Spokane for the holiday weekend, and that a violent domestic disturbance had taken place between the brothers.
Doyle said a 22-caliber rifle was used in the shooting. The 35-year-old son was transported to St. Luke’s Medical Center for his non life-threatening injuries.
The undersheriff added that investigators felt the case need additional follow-up to be made before being forwarded to the Lake County Attorney’s Office for any potential pending charges against the family members.
