Masumola Club meeting
The October 2009 meeting of the Masumola Club will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, featuring Rocky Point Road cleanup from 3:30-5:45 p.m., social hour from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. with music by No Strings Attached, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a program at 7 p.m. with Polson City Manager Todd Crossett speaking.

Samoan fundraiser
Fundraiser to help victims of the Samoan tsunami will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 at the new Life Christian Center. There will be a Samoan performance of traditional dance. Donations will be accepted, chili, hot dogs, cornbread and Samoan dessert will be served. Sika 871-1649.
Ladies of the Lake
The Ladies of the Lake Oriental Dancers Club of Polson invites new beginning members to come at 5:30 p.m. on Fridays starting on Oct. 9. No experience necessary. An African Barn Dance Benefit with chili feed, dessert and silent auction will take place from 4-10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Dennis’ house on Job Corps Road, Charlo. Follow the signs or call 644-2339. The goal is to finish the Guinea Bissau Base projects.

Wildlife crossing presentation
Highway 93 Wildlife Crossings” by Whisper Camel will be the next Mission Mountain Audubon program at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Polson City Library Meeting Room. The People’s Way reconstruction project has set new standards for enabling wildlife to safely cross the highway.

NARFE meeting
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Polson Senior Center. A spaghetti lunch will be served. Following lunch there will be a program featuring Todd Crossett, the Polson city manager, followed by a brief business meeting. The meeting will be conducted by chapter president Brian River.

Harvest Dinner
The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold its annual Harvest dinner of Swedish meatballs, potatoes and gravy, lefse, salad and pie from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22 in the church fellowship hall. We will not have crafts this year in order to have more dining room. Crafts will be featured at the December cookie walk. Fair trade coffee is available for sale. Low cost tickets as well, which will benefit the food pantry and Helping Hands.
Monster Mash Fun Run
The Monster Mash Fun Run will be held at Linderman Elementary School with races beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Volunteers are needed for this event, call Lori Russell at 883-2237 or e-mail lrussell@polson.k12.mt.us for more information. Registration forms are available at Polson schools. Costumes are highly encouraged.
St. Ignatius child find
St. Ignatius School District is conducting its annual child finds from 1-3 p.m on Monday, Oct. 26 at the elementary school. Several screenings, including hearing and vision, will be given. Call 745-3811 to make an appointment or just walk in.
Apple Festival
Immaculate Conception Apple Festival and Parking Lot Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 23-24. Fresh apple pies, art and crafts will be available, along with a lunch service on Friday. Dry meat social
The People’s Center will be hosting its annual Dry Meat Social on Monday, Oct. 19, in Pablo at the center. This is a time for people to bring in their game and learn how to slice and dry the meat. Farmer in concert
The People’s Center welcomes actor, singer Gary Farmer on Sunday, Oct. 18. Gary was the founder and Publisher of Aboriginal Voices Magazine, a magazine which was devoted to Native Canadian issues. He is well known for his roles in “Pow-wow Highway,” “Skins” and “Smoke Signals.” Bring your own chairs.
GED Prep Class Offered

Free movie screening
“Not Evil, Just Wrong” will be shown locally at the Polson City Library Meeting Room free of charge at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. The film “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” is a feature-length documentary which takes on the conventional wisdom of global warming.
Harvest Festival
The Ronan PTA is sponsoring it’s annual Harvest Festival from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 at K. William Harvey Elementary Gym. Admission is free. Donations of candy are welcomed. Games and prizes galore! Snacks are available for minimal cost. Hope to see everyone there!
Valley View Women’s Club Annual Sale
Valley View Women’s Club annual rummage sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the V. V. Clubhouse 40762 Valley View Road. Take Kerr Dam Road into Valley View Road follow signs. Nazarene 50th celebration
The Pablo Church of The Nazarene will be celebrating 50 years on its present location in Pablo. The Celebration Worship Service will be at 11 am. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the church, located on Old Hwy. 93, just south of Pablo. The service will be followed by a potluck dinner at noon.In May of 1959, the congregation of the Pablo Church of The Nazarene purchased the 2 acres of land where the church is presently located. In September of the same year, the Reservoir Valley School House was purchased. The school house was moved onto the two acres in December. This became the church. The parsonage and other additions were built during the following years. The most recent addition being the present worship sanctuary, completed in 1986. The Pablo Congregation invites everyone to join with them for this anniversary celebration service. Call 675-0081 for more information.
Community Spirit Basket
Community Bank is hosting and sponsoring the third annual Community Spirit Basket project. Merchants or individuals are asked to donate a basket filled with items representing their business or organization. Baskets will then go on display Nov. 2 through Dec. 10 in the designated Community Bank lobby of their choice. Raffle tickets are available at bank lobbies. Soroptimist scholarship
Soroptimist International of Polson is committed to making a difference for women through projects that help women and girls lead better lives. To that end we participate in the Violet Richardson Award program. The program began in 1999 and recognizes and honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts. The Violet Richardson Award honors women between 12 and 17 who make the world a better place. The program begins at the local Soroptimist club level where in Polson the award is $1,100, with 75 percent going to honor the winner and the other 25 percent going to the winner’s volunteer organization. Applications have been made available at high schools in Polson, Ronan, Charlo, Two Eagle River and St. Ignatius, or by contacting Maria Bishop, Violet Richardson Award chair at 883-5372 or 883-0417. Applications are due on Dec. 1.

Aging care classes
Western Montana Area V! Agency of Agin will conduct a free, six-part training program to enable family caregivers to better care for themselves by improving self-confidence and problem solving skills. Classes are being for 10-11:30 a.m. beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13, running through Nov. 17 at Community bank in Polson. Two experienced leaders will conduct each class, space is limited. Benefit barn Dance
On Saturday, Oct. 10 the Valley wide Friends (and Equip 21. Org) of Emosi and Silvanna Tatukivei, and Guinnea Bissau (West Africa), will be hosting an African Benefit and Barn Dance to help complete buildings, medical and water projects. There will be square dancing, chili feed, silent auction, pies, update videos and a Samoan Fire Knife Dance presentation by YWAM Flathead Reservation Tribal Waves. It will be held at the Rick and Brenda Dennis residence, beginning at 4 p.m. Go East on Job Corps Road, then follow posted signs.
Bison hunt orientation
The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes announce the third series of 2009 off Reservation wild bison hunter orientations. Each hunter is required to attend an orientation with the Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation and Conservation to be issued one bison hunt tag. The orientation will be offered at noon, 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Mission Valley Power conference room in Pablo.Contact Amanda Bourdon, Tribal Permit Agent, at 675-2700, ext. 7226 to register for the orientation.
Live Locally 5k
The Thirda Annual “Live Locally” 5K Run/Walk will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, in honor of Lung Health Awareness and National Pasta Month, HealthCare Plus and Country Pasta have teamed up to provide a 5K Run/Walk. There will be educational resources in regards to Lung Health and an onsite respiratory therapist to answer questions. All participants will receive free pasta and there will be an open prize drawing for all racers. All proceeds will be donated to Mission Valley Aquatics where all ages can benefit in supporting Lung Health. Race begins at Main and 7th, $15 with t-shirt prior to Oct.14. Halloween party
Heart View Center in Arlee is hosting the Fourth Annual free community Halloween party. It will be from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be games geared toward younger kids (primarily third grade and under), but everyone is invited to attend. Youth home benefit concerts
The Cascade Quartet from the Great Falls Symphony will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Ronan Performing Arts Center with a program that ranges from Aaron Copland to Mozart to Led Zeppelin as a part of the seven concert lineup to support Lake County Youth Home. Eighteen and younger are free.

Food safety advisory group
A Food Safety Advisory Group is being established by the Lake County Environmental Health Department. This committee will discuss a variety of topics related to how food served to the public can be protected through education, regulation, certification and other means. The group is anticipated to be comprised of members of the public, food service industry, county and tribal environmental health department, Lake County Board of Health, and MSU Extension. Rummage and bake sale
The Yellow Bay Community Club is holding its 25th annual rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. This one-day event will be held at the Yellow Bay clubhouse on the east shore of Flathead Lake (Montana Highway 35 at mile marker 18).
Sale items include fine dinnerware and glassware, exercise bike and much, much more. A chili and cornbread lunch prepared by the ladies auxiliary will be available, along with assorted homemade desserts at the bake sale. Free coffee all day! This will also be the final day to purchase raffle tickets for a cherry-theme lap quilt, designed and crafted by Yellow Bay resident, Chris Schroeder. The rummage/bake sale is a fundraiser for the Yellow Bay club with proceeds going toward the club’s charitable works and clubhouse maintenance.
Baertsch scholarship
L. G. Baertsch scholarship applications are available at First Interstate Bank - Trust Department or at the Polson High School guidance office beginning on Sept. 5. Applications are due back to the bank by Monday, Nov. 16. Applicants must be former PHS students currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school. They must have at least a 2.0 grade point average for two semesters if enrolled in a four-year college or university, or for one semester at a two-year college or trade/vocational school.
Call for art
The Sandpiper Gallery at 306 Main in Polson is calling for art for its fall theme show “Splashes of Color- Flashes of Fall.” This show is open to all regional artists, members and non-members and is not juried. Simply bring 1-3 pieces of your art, depending on size, to the Sandpiperfrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Satduring, Oct. 17. Call the gallery 883-5956 for any submission requirments or questions. A reception for the artist will be held on Oct. 23 and the show will close on Nov. 21.
Sjogrens support group
Sjogrens syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes certain parts of the immune system to attack and damage the glands of the body and can also damage other organs, causing a variety of symptoms.
We would like to start a support group in Polson and the surrounding areas. A great deal can be learned from others and the national foundation. If you’re interested, call Jo Weaver at 883-5401.
Heroes Needed
Become a hero by spending one half hour twice a week helping a child learn to read. The Polson Reads program is starting again this fall and is looking for adults who enjoy children and want to help them succeed. You can choose to be matched up with one or more children depending on the amount of time you are able to commit, as well as the time that works for you. All materials and training are provided. CNA training
St. Luke Extended Care is planning another Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) training class. The 3-week course is scheduled to begin on Oct. 14. Anyone with a high school diploma or equivalent wanting to enroll in the CNA course should pick-up an application form at St. Luke Extend Care. Lion King bus
Community Bank is sponsoring a trip to the Saturday evening, Dec. 5 performance of Broadway’s Award-Winning Best Musical “The Lion King.” The seating for the play will be in the orchestra section rows 10-13.
