Masumola Club meeting
The September 2009 meeting of the Masumola Club is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10. We will be having a Fall Round-up Barbecue. We will be barbecuing and serving dinner at 6:30 p.m. A grill will be supplied, so bring your own meat to grill and a side dish to pass. There will be no program. Saint Andrew’s Fall Rummage Sale
St. Andrew’s fall rummage sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sat. Sept. 12, with the bag sale from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring varied quality items including books, electronics, housewares, jewelry, exercise equipment, childrens toys, furniture, etc.! (No clothing). Rummage sale items located inside and in back yard. The church is at 110 6th Ave. E., Polson.
Big Arm Dance
Big Arm’s Third Annual Barn Dance and Dinner will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. The Barn Dance will feature the fantastic Southern Comfort Band and a wonderful dinner of pulled pork and all of the trimmings. Please call Lee for early tickets at 849-5522. The funds raised will benefit the restoration of the Big Arm Historic School. The barn is near mile marker 71 on Highway 93, please follow the signs! Stockhill exhibit opening
“Abstracts and Artifacts,” a collection of 34 abstract photographs by Michael L. Stockhill, will be on display beginning on Friday, Sept. 11 through the holiday season at The Grey Leaf Gallery. A reception open to the public will be hosted by the gallery from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.

Free dinner
Have dinner with us on Friday, Sept. 11 and the second Friday night of each month at our Friendship Table. Everyone in the community is welcome. Climate change event planning
The Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition will host a meeting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 at the Polson Library to plan an event or events to lift public awareness and possibly avoid the imminent and disastrous consequences of global warming. Everyone is welcome.
SJMC Childbirth Classes
St. Joseph Medical Center is sponsoring a two day session of Childbirth Preparation Classes from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 and from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. For more information or to register, please call Florence Brown at 883-8430. Scholarships are available. Women in their sixth to eighth month of gestation are encouraged to call now to pre-register. Childbirth education classes help prepare expecting moms and dads for “the most important delivery you will ever make” so be sure you have all the information you need.

Ladies Aid Bazaar
The annual Dayton Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid Bazaar will be held in conjunction with many other activities as part of the annual Dayton Daze activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. The bazaar features craft items, baked goods, attic treasures, and lunch. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with chili, chili dogs, hot dogs, sloppy joes, potato salad, homemade pies and beverages being served. St. Luke childbirth class
The next comprehensive one-day childbirth education class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. Bull riding and
youth day
Miniature bull riding finals and youth play day will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Ronan Fairgrounds. The top 20 Montana miniature bull riders, plus barrel racing, goat tying, sheep riding and pole bending. Free admission with concessions on the grounds. For more information call 745-8550.
Dayton Daze
Dayton Daze will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 throughout the community. Also, Dayton Day at the Winery will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 celebrating Dayton’s 100th anniversary.

Fly-in at Polson
The Mission Valley Chapter 1122 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will be hosting a Young Eagles Fly-in at Polson Airport (8S1) on Saturday, Sept. 12. All kids between the ages of 8 and 17, with their parents permission, can get a ride in an airplane free of charge.
Young Eagle rides will start at 9 a.m. Breakfast will be available from 8-11 a.m.. All of this depends on the weather cooperating. If you have any questions, call Bud Radtke at 883-1245 or Mauri Morin at 249-2250

Valley View Women’s Club
The VVWC will be celebration 85 years and 70 years for the construction of the clubhouse. We will have a potluck at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, at the clubhouse at 40762 Valley View Road. Hope you all can come and celebrate with us and see all the improvements.
Free cooking class
The “Heart Healthy Dining” class will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Glacier View Christian School, 18 Mud Creek Lane, Ronan.

UM Church 100th celebration
The United Methodist Church of Polson is 100 years old this month. Hal Stearns, a dynamic Montana historian, will begin the Centennial Anniversary Celebration with a talk, ”Polson Area History,” during worship at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.
A social hour following worship will include a “measuring party” where folks donate a set amount for every inch they are tall to offset event expenses.
Anniversary activities continue from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 18, with an All-Church BBQ and Free Community Meal. At 11 a.m., Sunday Sept. 20, Rev. Mark Calhoun will present “History and Heritage of Polson UMC.”
Elaine Stanovsky, bishop for the Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain conferences, will preach, “Shaped by the Past and Looking to the Future,” at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Republican women meeting
The Lake County Republican Women will meet at noon on Monday, Sept. 14 at a new location, Papa Don’s at the Polson Golf Course.

Food and fitness celebration
The CSKT Food Distribution Program will hold a Food and Fitness Celebration beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in theJoe McDonald Health and Fitness Center. The day will include a 5k walk/run, activities throughout the day and guest speaker Darryl Tonemah at 6 p.m.
Montecahto Club breakfast
The Montecahto Club will be having a breakfast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, as a fundraiser for its scholarship fund and for the purchase of new windows for the clubhouse. The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy, cantaloupe and orange juice. Please join us at the clubhouse near the sixth mile marker on Highway 35.
Heroes needed
Become a hero by spending one half hour twice a week helping a child learn to read. The Polson Reads program is starting again this fall and is looking for adults who enjoy children and want to help them succeed. You can choose to be matched up with one or more children depending on the amount of time you are able to commit, as well as the time that works for you. All materials and training are provided. A kick-off luncheon for all volunteers will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24. To volunteer or find out more, contact Polson Reads Coordinator Carolyn Heinz at 883-4075.
MVAS Doggy Dash
The 2009 Doggy Dash event to benefit the Mission ßLike, Best Trick, Best Singer/Howler, Longest Tail, Best Kisser and Worst Behaved. All proceeds directly benefit the animals at the shelter. Pick up pledge sheets at the animal shelter, Seconds 2 Go or Wright Real Estate.
Polson Post Secondary Fair
High school juniors and seniors from Polson, Ronan, Charlo, and Two Eagle River School along with their parents are encouraged to attend Polson’s Post Secondary Fair from 10-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in the Polson High School Gymnasium. Approximately 79 post secondary schools from Montana and other northwestern states will be represented at this year’s Post Secondary Fair. This free event is open to all high school juniors and seniors. The fair is sponsored by the PHS Guidance Office and the Montana Post Secondary Educational Opportunities Council. St. Ignatius hunters safety
Hunter safety classes will be held in the basement of the Christian church in St. Ignatius beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21. Sessions will end on Sept. 25. A parent or guardian needs to be present to register their child. Sessions run until 6 p.m. The class is free to those 11-years-old and older. A test must be past for full certification. Polson Community Church retreat
The Polson Community Church 2nd Annual one-day retreat based on Creation, Genesis 1:vs1. will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1814 First St. South in Polson. Polson hunter education
Hunter education classes for Polson register at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at the Polson Middle School. This is also the first night of class. Classes continue at 7-9 p.m. on September 14-17 and Sept. 21-22; the written test is on Sept. 23 and the field course is on Sept. 26.

Doggy Dash
The Mission Valley Animal Shelter has announced that its Doggy Dash 2009 will be held this year on Saturday, September 19, at the Travis Dolphin Dog Park in Polson, rain or shine. Co-sponsors of the event are Community Banks-Montana and Total Screen Design.
The Doggy Dash 2009 kicks off with registration at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:00. Mission Valley Animal Shelter bandanas will be handed out to all 4-legged entries. Participants are encouraged to enlist sponsors for their walk to raise money for the animal shelter. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 adult and top 3 junior (14 years and under) walkers based upon the amount of money raised. Each participant who collects $25 or more will get a free “Doggy Dash” T-shirt and participants who raise $70 or more will receive a Mission Valley Animal Shelter Tote Bag and the T-shirt.
SAFE harbor auction
SAFE Harbor will be hosting its Fifth Annual Auction at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Ronan Community Center.
SAFE Harbor is the only Domestic Violence shelter in Lake County. If you have items you would like to donate for the Auction, or if you are interested in attending, please call SAFE Harbor at 676-0800.
Ronan Harvest Fest
The 1st Annual Ronan Area Harvest Fest will be held on Sept. 19 at the Ronan Community fairgrounds. The event is sponsored by the Ronan Area Chamber of Commerce the event will include a chili cookoff, dessert bake-off, farmer’s market, scarecrow and straw bale decorating contest, and a Barn Dance with the music of a Goin-Concern. The chili cook-off must be set up by 1 p.m., cooking is from 2-6 p.m. and judging will be held at 6:05 p.m. by a panel of local chili lovers. Tastings are open to the public for 25 cents per taster cup or $1 per bowl. Entry fee is $25 per team. Prizes are: 1st place $75, 2nd place $50, and $25 for 3rd place. FVVS End of Summer Party
Lake Mary Ronan Lodge and Resort is hosting the Fifth Annual FVBS End of the Summer Party on Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday Sept. 19. Music will begin after dinner on Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Lion King bus
Community Bank is sponsoring a trip to the Saturday evening, Dec. 5 performance of Broadway’s Award-Winning Best Musical “The Lion King.” The seating for the play will be in the orchestra section rows 10-13. Overnight accommodations will be at Spokane’s premier hotels, The Davenport. The bus will depart at Community Bank in Polson at 8:30 a.m., Ronan 9 at a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 and return Dec. 6. Family Matters open house
Family Matters and Mission Valley Dance are moving to a new location, the corner of 9th and Main Street, as of Sept. 1. Family Matters, a community family resource center, has offered programs and services to families in Polson and surrounding areas since 2007. Parent and child programs such as Roll and Tumble, Mix and Measure, Out and About and Messy Play will be held at the new location at 9th and Main Street in Polson, behind Cherry Valley School. Little Cherries will continue to be held at Cherry Valley School. Parenting classes and playgroups, as well as a lending library and opportunities to meet and network with other parents, will also be provided to families at the new location. Most programs offered by Family Matters funded by the Montana Children’s Trust Fund and are free of charge. Mission Valley Dance will be offering an expanded number and variety of dance and movement classes in this new location. All classes will be taught by experienced and qualified instructors. There is a charge for dance and movement classes, however, scholarships for eligible individuals will be available through Family Matters. Family Matters is selling raffle tickets for a package to the “Lion King” in Spokane. The package includes two tickets to the show, a hotel room at the Red Lion Inn, a dinner certificate for $50 and a gas card for $40. The drawing for this package will be held at the open house.
Native American Awareness week
Native American Awareness Week has been scheduled for Sept. 22-24 this year. Events will take place here at The People’s Center daily beginning at 9:15 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m.
Some stations will be as follows; Native games -(double ball, stick game, run and scream and ring toss), dry meat and fry bread. Please call 675-0160 to schedule your class. Child screenings
For those children who currently reside in the Ronan-Pablo School District: We are conducting our bi-annual free child screening from 12:30 -3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Ronan Middle School. Children ages birth to 5 years old will be screened for delays in speech, language, motor skills, social or basic school readiness. Please make an appointment by calling Janet at 676-3390 ext. 3450. Walk-ins will be subject to availability or scheduled for a later date.
