Charlo tastes first loss
CHARLO — Charlo was handed its first loss of the season at the hands of Drummond.
No. 2 Drummond beat the No. 6 Vikings 45-19 in the meeting of the two undefeated teams.
“Experiences on the line of scrimmage was a huge advantage for them,” head coach Steve Love said. “They’re all seniors and they manhandled us.”
The Vikings kept the game close in the first quarter. After Drummond scored, senior running back Chance Firestone took matters into his own hands and ran for a 78-yard kick-off return.
Drummond took off in the second and third quarters, scoring 34 points.
“We were very inconsistent on offense,” Love said. “We played extremely well on special teams and we were physical all night. “
The Vikings started a comeback in the fourth quarter when junior quarterback Chico Stipe had a 71-yard touchdown run. The third score for Charlo came on an 11-yard pass from Stipe to Firestone.
Stipe ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns while senior end Jame Petersen had 16 solo tackles.
“Chance Firestone ran so hard on special teams and Jame Petersen was everywhere on defense,” Love said.
The Vikings will build on their physical play in Victor on Saturday.
