Home school dinner
Mission Valley Home Educators will be meeting for their First Friday Fellowship with a potluck dinner, fellowship, announcements and an information exchange at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at the New Life Christian Center in Polson. Baptist fellowship
The Montana Regular Baptist Fellowship will hold its annual Bible Conference and meeting Oct. 2-3 at the First Baptist Church of Polson. Dr. Kober will hold five sessions throughout the weekend. First Baptist Church is located at 40401 Highway 25. Contact 883-4174 for more information.

Pheasants Forever banquet
The Mission Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold its annual fund raising banquet on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Ronan Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. for project and merchandise viewing, and dinner will begin around 7 p.m. Wildlife art-form auctions, gun raffles, games of chance, and other fun activities will be featured. Tickets are available at Ronan Power Products, John’s Fuel Farm in Ronan, and Gull Printing in Polson, or by calling Sid Rundell at 849-5053 or Dave Bunnell at 644-8329.
Polson Community Church retreat
The Polson Community Church 2nd Annual one-day retreat based on Creation, Genesis 1:vs1. will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1814 First St. South in Polson. The Retreat features four Speakers: Governor Judy Martz, Richard Widerholdt, PCC pastor, Boyd Henneman, geologist and Judy Ericksen, artist and potter.
JV Trails meeting
The Jocko Valley Trails Committee will be holding its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Hangin’ Art Gallery in Arlee. Anyone interested in improving the overall health and fitness of the community through a series of trails in the Jocko Valley is encouraged to attend.
Speicial weekend service
Polson Foursquare Church will be hosting special weekend services at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 and 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, with guest speaker Herb Murks. His message will focus on the Father Heart of God. All are welcome, for more information call 883-9347.
Big Arm yard sale and potluck
A yard sale to benefit the restoration work on the historic Big Arm school begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 and will be held inside the school which is located behind the Fire Hall on 7th Street in Big Arm. The second event will be a potluck at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Big Arm Fire Hall. At 7 p.m., our guest speaker will be Gil Mangels of the Miracle Of America Museum. Pachyderms coming to LC
On Monday, Oct. 5, the Lake County Republican Women’s Club will be hearing Richard “Grif” Griffin, a board member of Glacier Country’s Pachyderm Club in Kalispell. If you would like to be a charter member of Lake County’s club or just learn more about the Pachyderms, plan to attend the luncheon at noon at Papa Don’s Grill at the Golf Course in Polson. Reservations for the luncheon buffet which opens at 11:30 a.m. should be made by calling Lynette at 849-5053 by Thursday, October 1. MVBCH meeting
The monthly meeting of the Mission Valley Back Country Horsemen will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the VFW Hall on Round Butte Rd., Ronan. The program for the evening will be a continuation of the Leave No Trace Program from the August meeting. The presenter will be David Crawford. Everyone is welcome.
MM Quilt meeting
The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will have its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Alliance Church on Terrace Lake Road in Ronan. At 6 p.m. there will be a mini-class, working on the November Block of the Month - the Bars and Stars Block. Even if you are not cutting, please bring your packets as there may need to be some fabric adjustments. The business meeting, including Show and Tell will be at 7 p.m., followed by very light refreshments. Visitors and guests are always welcome.

Rural fire district meeting
Polson Rural Fire District Trustees monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Polson City Commission Room. The board will meet at 6 p.m. for a special meeting.
ARK meets Wednesday
The ARK, an after-school program for kids, continues meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the United Methodist Church, 301 16th Ave. E. Kids between the ages of six and 12 are invited to attend from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays through Oct. 28. On Oct. 14 the ARK will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. due to early out at the Polson schools. Call for more information 883-6161.
Community Dance
Frolic into Fall and come to the place to be from 7:30- 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 for the Wednesday night dance with tunes by Heart to Heart. Ladies come on out, we need you and have more partners that we girls can keep up with. Meet some new people and all of your friends there.

Soroptimist scholarship
Soroptimist International of Polson is committed to making a difference for women through projects that help women and girls lead better lives. To that end we participate in the Violet Richardson Award program. The program began in 1999 and recognizes and honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts. The Violet Richardson Award honors women between 12 and 17 who make the world a better place. The program begins at the local Soroptimist club level where in Polson the award is $1,100, with 75 percent going to honor the winner and the other 25 percent going to the winner’s volunteer organization. Applications have been made available at high schools in Polson, Ronan, Charlo, Two Eagle River and St. Ignatius, or by contacting Maria Bishop, Violet Richardson Award chair at 883-5372 or 883-0417. Applications are due on Dec. 1.
Fireside Mystery Readers

Aging care classes
Western Montana Area V! Agency of Agin will conduct a free, six-part training program to enable family caregivers to better care for themselves by improving self-confidence and problem solving skills. Classes are being for 10-11:30 a.m. beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13, running through Nov. 17 at Community bank in Polson. Two experienced leaders will conduct each class, space is limited. Benefit barn Dance
On Saturday, Oct. 10 the Valley wide Friends (and Equip 21. Org) of Emosi and Silvanna Tatukivei, and Guinnea Bissau (West Africa), will be hosting an African Benefit and Barn Dance to help complete buildings, medical and water projects. There will be square dancing, chili feed, silent auction, pies, update videos and a Samoan Fire Knife Dance presentation by YWAM Flathead Reservation Tribal Waves. It will be held at the Rick and Brenda Dennis residence, beginning at 4 p.m. Go East on Job Corps Road, then follow posted signs.
Bison hunt orientation
The Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes announce the third series of 2009 off Reservation wild bison hunter orientations. Each hunter is required to attend an orientation with the Division of Fish, Wildlife, Recreation and Conservation to be issued one bison hunt tag. The orientation will be offered at noon, 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Mission Valley Power conference room in Pablo.Contact Amanda Bourdon, Tribal Permit Agent, at 675-2700, ext. 7226 to register for the orientation.
Live Locally 5k
The Thirda Annual “Live Locally” 5K Run/Walk will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, in honor of Lung Health Awareness and National Pasta Month, HealthCare Plus and Country Pasta have teamed up to provide a 5K Run/Walk. There will be educational resources in regards to Lung Health and an onsite respiratory therapist to answer questions. All participants will receive free pasta and there will be an open prize drawing for all racers. All proceeds will be donated to Mission Valley Aquatics where all ages can benefit in supporting Lung Health. Race begins at Main and 7th, $15 with t-shirt prior to Oct.14. Halloween party
Heart View Center in Arlee is hosting the Fourth Annual free community Halloween party. It will be from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be games geared toward younger kids (primarily third grade and under), but everyone is invited to attend. As always, the party is funded solely on donations from local businesses and organizations. If people have questions or want more info they can reach call 726-4460.
Youth home benefit concerts
The Cascade Quartet from the Great Falls Symphony will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Ronan Performing Arts Center with a program that ranges from Aaron Copland to Mozart to Led Zeppelin as a part of the seven concert lineup to support Lake County Youth Home. Eighteen and younger are free.
Masumola Club meeting
The October 2009 meeting of the Masumola Club will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, featuing Rocky Point road cleanup from 3:30-5:45 p.m., social hour from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. with music by No Strings Attached, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a program at 7 p.m. with Polson City Manager Todd Crossett speaking about the proposed Polson city resort tax.
Food safety advisory group
A Food Safety Advisory Group is being established by the Lake County Environmental Health Department. This committee will discuss a variety of topics related to how food served to the public can be protected through education, regulation, certification and other means. The group is anticipated to be comprised of members of the public, food service industry, county and tribal environmental health department, Lake County Board of Health, and MSU Extension. Rummage and bake sale
The Yellow Bay Community Club is holding its 25th annual rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. This one-day event will be held at the Yellow Bay clubhouse on the east shore of Flathead Lake (Montana Highway 35 at mile marker 18).
Sale items include fine dinnerware and glassware, exercise bike and much, much more. A chili and cornbread lunch prepared by the ladies auxiliary will be available, along with assorted homemade desserts at the bake sale. Free coffee all day! This will also be the final day to purchase raffle tickets for a cherry-theme lap quilt, designed and crafted by Yellow Bay resident, Chris Schroeder. The rummage/bake sale is a fundraiser for the Yellow Bay club with proceeds going toward the club’s charitable works and clubhouse maintenance.
Baertsch scholarship
L. G. Baertsch scholarship applications are available at First Interstate Bank - Trust Department or at the Polson High School guidance office beginning on Sept. 5. Applications are due back to the bank by Monday, Nov. 16. Applicants must be former PHS students currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school. They must have at least a 2.0 grade point average for two semesters if enrolled in a four-year college or university, or for one semester at a two-year college or trade/vocational school.
Call for art
The Sandpiper Gallery at 306 Main in Polson is calling for art for its fall theme show “Splashes of Color- Flashes of Fall.” This show is open to all regional artists, members and non-members and is not juried. Simply bring 1-3 pieces of your art, depending on size, to the Sandpiperfrom 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Satduring, Oct. 17. Call the gallery 883-5956 for any submission requirments or questions. A reception for the artist will be held on Oct. 23 and the show will close on Nov. 21.
Sjogrens support group
Sjogrens syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes certain parts of the immune system to attack and damage the glands of the body and can also damage other organs, causing a variety of symptoms.
We would like to start a support group in Polson and the surrounding areas. A great deal can be learned from others and the national foundation. If you’re interested, call Jo Weaver at 883-5401.
Heroes Needed
Become a hero by spending one half hour twice a week helping a child learn to read. The Polson Reads program is starting again this fall and is looking for adults who enjoy children and want to help them succeed. You can choose to be matched up with one or more children depending on the amount of time you are able to commit, as well as the time that works for you. All materials and training are provided. A kick-off luncheon for all volunteers will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24. To volunteer or find out more, contact Polson Reads Coordinator, Carolyn Heinz at 883-4075.

The next Suicide Oversight Meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Lake County Health Building Conference Room at 802 Main Street in Polson.
Adult Ed teachers needed

CNA training
St. Luke Extended Care is planning another Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) training class. The 3-week course is scheduled to begin on Oct. 14. Anyone with a high school diploma or equivalent wanting to enroll in the CNA course should pick-up an application form at St. Luke Extend Care. Or those interested may phone 676-2900 by Monday, Sept. 28, to schedule an interview.
Lion King bus
Community Bank is sponsoring a trip to the Saturday evening, Dec. 5 performance of Broadway’s Award-Winning Best Musical “The Lion King.” The seating for the play will be in the orchestra section rows 10-13. Overnight accommodations will be at Spokane’s premier hotels, The Davenport. The bus will depart at Community Bank in Polson at 8:30 a.m., Ronan 9 at a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 and return Dec. 6.
