Immunization registry and you

The Montana Immunization Registry known as WIZRD  (Web-based Immunization Registry Database) has been developed as a part of Montana’s strategy to help ensure that children are age-appropriately immunized. This effort has now expanded to include adult immunizations. An immunization registry is a computer-based information system that contains a record of the immunization status of the individual. WIZRD provides an invaluable tool for the reporting of immunization data.

Immunization records are recorded at the county level in WIZRD. These records can then be accessed by other Montana healthcare providers. By having one immunization record that all physicians can access, it reduces the chance that a patient is over or under immunized. This access to a computer immunization record is also a vital piece of information should a patient require emergency treatment as it allows the provider to obtain important information of previous immunizations, health alerts and allergies.

At this time not all local health care providers are enrolled with WIZRD, so it is important to always keep a written immunization record for yourself and/or children whenever possible. Eventually, the goal is to have all health care providers enrolled in WIZRD.

Important items for parents to remember:

ALWAYS get records from your physician/provider whenever immunizations are given. Always carry an immunization card in your wallet and have your health care provider update all immunizations in this record as new ones are received.

ALWAYS take your immunization records to any health care provider appointment.

If relocating, ALWAYS obtain current immunization records from your physician/provider. This will help with enrollment into schools and daycare in your new area.

If you are unsure of your or your children’s immunization status we may be able to assist with finding records.

Local immunization registries are in various stages of development and implementation throughout Montana.  To get more information on your local immunization registry contact your local public health office for additional information.

The Lake County Public Health Office offers a walk-in immunization clinic from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, or by appointment. For more information contact Lake County Public Health at 406-883-7288.  We are located in Polson at 802 Main Street, Suite A.
