POLSON — After placing well in both the Polson Invitational and the Hamilton Invitational, the Polson golf teams are looking to improve in today’s divisional competition in Columbia Falls.

“To qualify for state, both our teams need to finish in the top 3,” Head Coach Bill Owen said. “The girls have a great shot at finishing in second, but they’re going to have to play better to beat Whitefish.”

The boys are going to have a tougher time today because the team will be down one player due to “disciplinary actions,” Owen said. “It will be difficult to beat Whitefish.”

Senior Tali Arlint, junior Amy Williamson, senior Tammy Heftved and sophomore Kat Medland will be competing for the girls side while sophomore Cody Fischer, freshman Hayden Congdon will join juniors Dakotah Jenson, Logan Howell and John Walk for the boys.

In order to qualify for state individually, golfers need to finish in the top 15.

On Monday, the Polson teams took a break and didn’t compete in the Frenchtown Invitational.

“The students were saying they were spending too much time out of class,” Owen said. “And they were right.”

Golfers will spend today at the Divisional meet in Columbia Falls, and tomorrow and Saturday at the Flatfish meet in Whitefish/Kalispell.
