Charlo track and field

FRENCHTOWN - Both the boys' and girls' Charlo track teams finished fifth at the Tolman-Touchette meet at Frenchtown on Saturday with mixed results in each event, the girls finishing the meet with 40 points and the boys with 54.

On the track, the girls took third place in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4 minutes and 32.8 seconds.

Sophomore Deondra Brown took fourth place in the 100 with a time of 13.59 and placed fifth in the 200 with a time of 28.27 and fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:07.27.

Sophomore Dawn Blevins placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:38.07 and fifth in the 1600 with a time of 5:57.07, and junior Schaelyn Fell finished the 100 hurdles in 17.63 for third place.

The girls fared somewhat better in field events, as Blevins placed third in javelin with a throw of 105-7 and senior Stephanie Maughan took third in pole vault with a jump of 8-3. Senior Alex Esterby placed sixth in discus with a throw of 91-3 1/2.

The boys' team also competed with mixed results, placing slightly higher in field events. One highlight was senior Chance Firestone's second-place finish in long jump with a jump of 5-6. The boys gave a strong showing in the pole vault event, where senior Jame Petersen took second place with a jump of 12-0 and Firestone followed with a third place jump of 11-6. Senior Houston Blevins took third place in shot put with a 41-2 throw.

In the relays, the boys placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 46.35 and third in the 1600 with a time of 3:41.03.

Senior Chico Stipe took fourth place in the 100 with a time of 11.71 and jumped a 5-6 for fifth place in high jump. Sophomore Stephen Delaney placed third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.23 and fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.27, and he jumped a 38-4 1/4 for sixth place in the triple jump. Junior Michael Smith placed sixth in the 3200 with a time of 11:21.50
