Personal bests for Arlee track

FRENCHTOWN - The Arlee girls' track team showed a modest improvement from last week's showing, finishing 13 out of 15 at Saturday's Toulman-Touchette meet in Frenchtown.

Sophomore Becca Nelson finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 103-1 and placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 96-6 1/2.

"Becca threw about six feet further in the shot put and 10 feet further in the discus [than last week] and also did well in the high jump," head coach Russ Baker said.

Sophomore Aspen Meidinger placed sixth in shot put with a throw of 29-2, her personal best. Her sister, sophomore Rachelle, also threw her personal best, 28-0.

"Aspen scratched some throws that were over 30 feet," Baker said. "We have to work on being aware of that."

Although the boys' varsity team didn't place, freshman Webb O'Neill competed in the freshman meet and won first place in the pole vault with a jump of 10-6.

"That was good enough to place if he had competed in varsity. He will compete on the varsity level in the future," Baker said.

Baker noted improvements on the boys' team from sophomore Zach Tameler, who cut about two seconds off his 400-meter race, to sophomore Zach Carver, who cleared 10 feet in the pole vault. The boys' relay cut about four seconds off of their time.

Arlee will compete at 1 p.m. today at Thompson Falls.
