Arlee Kindergarten round-up

Arlee Schools will be holding our annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday April 22. If you have a child or know a child that may be entering kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year, please call 726-3216 Ext. 1. We will be scheduling appointments for screening in the new K-3 building. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 10, 2010. Immunization records and a certified birth certificate will be required to register a child for school.

School board forum

On Thursday, April 22, the Polson Education Association will be sponsoring a school board candidates' forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at that Polson high school library. This forum is open to the public to help voters become more informed about the candidates. There are four candidates running for two positions. The candidates for the Board of Trustees for School District 23 are incumbent John Laimbeer, Kelly Bagnell, Elizabeth Grant and Heather Davies.

St. Ignatius Schools Community Showcase

The St. Ignatius Schools will be hosting their annual community showcase on April 22. All community members are cordially invited to attend.

The evening begins with a complimentary spaghetti feed from 5-6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria in the elementary school. A wide variety of displays, activities and presentations from all curricular areas will run from 5-7 p.m. in various locations throughout the elementary, middle school, and high school.

The finale of the evening will be special musical performances by some of our talented students in the high school gym.

Glacier National Park birthday party

The Miracle of America Museum is hosting the only Glacier National Park centennial event in Lake County at 6:30 p.m. on April 22.

In addition to the more than 100 related artifacts and memorabilia on permanent museum display, the public will be treated to a temporary viewing of 60 framed photographs and informative posters made possible by a loan from the MT Historical Society.

The general program will start at 6:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to an outdoor tour and examination of vintage vehicles previously owned by GNP.

At 7 p.m., the indoor program will begin, consisting of a lecture, "A View Inside Glacier National Park - 100 years, 100 stories, 100 Entrepreneurs, 100 GNP Souvenirs." Retired English Professor, Dale G. Harvey will give readings and poetry about the park, and Neil Lewing of the Port Polson Players, will sing songs about the Park.

Free community dinner

Fellowship Baptist Church cordially invites all members of our community to join us for a free community dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22. We will be serving a variety of BBQ dishes, side dishes and homemade desserts. Please join us for an evening of good food and fellowship. We are located on the corner of 7th Avenue and Main Street across from the HCP building. We hope to see you there!

Soup's On

As you are preparing your gardens this spring, please pot up the extra foliage and contribute them to the "Soup's On" plant sale April 23. All proceeds from this sale will go to supporting the free lunch program at the Wander Inn. And, we will be paid twice for all the plants that we sell that day.

Your generosity to the "Soup's On" project will go twice as far this month. All donations received between March 1 and April 30 will be matched by the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation. The Feinstein Foundation offers $1 million to anti-hunger projects throughout the country. When you donate to this project he will add money to it, so the more you give, the more of his $1 million we will get. This is a great grass roots campaign to fight hunger in our community.

On April 23 a collection of plants will be on sale during our monthly Family Table. Join the fun with a free BBQ burger menu. Please bring your plants to the sale between 4 and 5 p.m. that day, or call for other arrangements.

"Soup's On" serves free soup and pastries from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday-Thursday at the Wander Inn, 101 7th Ave., Polson. For information please call 883-5160. Volunteers are always welcome. Be the change.

Trash to treasure

An indoor community yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 23 and Sunday, April 25 at Glacier View School Gym. Proceeds from table rentals and donated items will go to benefit the eighth grade trip. For more information contact Suzie at 675-2305 or Joyce at 675-8973.

Dixon dance

Monthly dance at the Dixon Senior Citizen Center sponsored by the Dixon Senior Citizens at 6 p.m. on April 23. "Let's Dance" with live music by the Little Big Band. Bring a friend or two and enjoy the dancing or listen to the terrific music. For questions, call Sharon Cole at 370-8662.

Big Arm Assoc. potluck

The next Big Arm Association potluck will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 23rd, at the Big Arm Fire Hall. Rick Jennison will be the guest speaker and will be giving a presentation on tree care. Rick will discuss the proper way of trimming and planting trees. If you would like to attend the potluck please bring a dish to be shared and family and friends. Jack and the Beanstalk performance

Audiences are invited to come along at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30 when the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) and more than 50 St. Ignatius school children present Jack and the Beanstalk.

LCRW Second Annual Spring Fling Brunch

The Lake County Republican Women's Club invites you to our Second Annual Spring Fling Brunch at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 409 Fourth Avenue, in Polson.

Featured speaker is Beth Cargo, the outstanding president of Montana Federation of Republican Women. During her 25 year Colonel Cargo served in jobs ranging from controlling fighter aircraft in Germany to managing the largest Air Force Audiology and Speech Pathology Clinic. Beth served on the Air Force Surgeon General's staff, was the Executive Officer to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force and was on the staff of the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.

Beth also represented Montana at the First Annual Republican National Committee Women's Summit. Come hear her views on becoming more informed about political issues and making a difference in the future of local, state and national government.

Community Earth Day/Bike Path Celebration

Bring your bikes, strollers, good walking shoes, your children and appetite to the Joe McDonald Event Center (SKC's campus) on for a Community Earth Day/Bike Path Celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. The event is being sponsored by a variety of nonprofit, health-promoting organizations, including Ronan Parks Department and Safe Routes to School, Salish Kootenai College, Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes and Lake County's Health Departments, and MDT's Safe on All Roads Program.

So come on out to the bicycle pedestrian path along Highway 93 between Ronan and Polson to learn about local programs, efforts, goals and resources in promoting healthy choices, have fun while riding or walking along the path, and reward your effort with a homegrown lunch with friends and family.

Preparedness and Self Reliance Education

Brushfires of Freedom is sponsoring its first monthly Preparedness and Self Reliance Class from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 at the Polson Library meeting room.

Education topics will include: introductions and general discussion of preparedness vs. self-reliance, basic emergency food and water storage, preparedness on a budget, what a bug out bag is and what's needed to make one, a Ham radio expert will also give a presentation on the importance of well thought out, coordinated emergency communications in our community.

Handouts and other educational material will also be distributed.

The Preparedness / Self Reliance Group is committed to developing spiritual, mental and practical preparedness throughout our community for living in uncertain times. The mission of this group is to inform, connect and empower people to manage their own destiny through informed choices and development of self reliance skills.

Pablo Church of the Nazarene Choir

The Pablo Church of The Nazarene will be hosting the Northwest Indian Bible School Choir for a special service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 25. The service will be followed with a potluck dinner at noon. A freewill offering will be received for the choir. The Church of the Nazarene is located just south of Pablo on Old Highway 93.

The NW Indian Bible School was opened in 1969 and is located at Alberton, Montana. Everyone is invited to attend this special service. Call 675-0081 for more information.

Silent auction

The public is invited to a silent auction from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 25 of artfully painted chairs and benches to raise money to help the people of Haiti.

Approximately 75 chairs and benches, restored and hand-painted by youth and adults from the Flathead, Mission and Missoula valleys, will be auctioned at the Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp near Rollins next Sunday afternoon.

The goal of this joint mission project of United Methodist churches is to raise $5,000 for Heifer Project International working in Haiti. In the official event title, "An ARK Full of Chairs," the ARK represents a quantity of giving, enough to send numerous pairs of animals to become tools of livelihood. Their by products will provide sustenance and a means of self sufficiency. Offspring will be passed on from family to family, thus increasing their gift to the Haitian people.

The Red Poppy

At 2 p.m. on April 25th, the 4th Sunday Gallery Reception at The Red Poppy will feature the artwork of The Red Poppy students. Chris "The Sandman" Sand will present a program of "Cowboy Rappin". As always, the afternoon is free and open to the public, with a reception following the program.

The Red Poppy is located in Ronan at 1st St. SW and Eisenhower, on Highway 93, South stoplight, across from True Value Hardware.

Polson Kindergarten round-up

Polson School District Kindergarten Round-up is scheduled for April 27 and 28. Children who will be five years old by September 10, 2010 can be enrolled in kindergarten. Screenings for developmental readiness, speech and language, motor skills and vision will be conducted during the round-up. Parents will need to bring their child's immunization record, birth certificate, and Tribal Enrollment Number if applicable. The round-up will be held at Cherry Valley Elementary School at 107 8th Ave. W. Call 883-6333 to schedule an appointment to register a child for kindergarten.
