POLSON - The Polson softball team didn't look like themselves against Hamilton last Thursday.

The Pirates committed an uncharacteristic six errors in the field despite the 6-1 win.

Polson scored first in the bottom of the opening inning and never looked back. The Pirates added to their lead in the third and fifth innings on nine hits. The rally in the fifth began with a triple from senior Staci Benson off the right center wall before scoring on junior Kodi Woods' sacrifice bunt. Junior Kayla Duford and sophomore Makaliah Wilson followed with singles and both scored on sophomore Ashley Johnson's single.

Benson and Woods each had two hits. Sophomore Riley Kenney and Johnson each had two RBIs.

At the plate, Smith said his team was overly anxious to hit the ball.

"[The Hamilton pitcher] had no velocity on the ball causing our aggressive hitters to be well ahead of the pitch," he said. "We eventually put together some hits to score enough runs to win."

Freshman Shay Duford earned the win and improved to 3-0, allowing one run on four hits. She blanked nine batters and walked two.

Polson faced Ronan on Tuesday, scores were unavailable at press time.

Up next, Polson hosts Whitefish tonight before heading up to the Frenchtown tournament for three games this weekend.
