Pflugrad to tee off in Ronan Tournament
New University of Montana Head Football Coach Robin Pflugrad will be one of several Grizzly coaches and staff, including Athletic Director Jim O'Day, to participate in the Tana Bockman Memorial Golf for Griz Tournament. The tourney will be held on Friday, May 21 at the Mission Mountain Country Club in Ronan. Other celebrities, including voice of the Griz Mick Holien, will be in attendance.
Area golfers will be able to play with University of Montana Grizzly coaches and staff while raising funds for Grizzly athletic scholarships. Griz coaches and staff will golf with tournament participants on a rotating schedule.
The 18-hole tourney is sponsored by the Mission Mountain Chapter of the Grizzly Scholarship Association (GSA). It will be a four-member co-ed scramble. A shotgun start will kick off the action at 11 a.m.
The tournament will be followed by a pig roast barbecue with Rocky Mountain oysters and all the trimmings at approximately 4 p.m. Prizes will be awarded during the meal. Door prizes will be given away and a silent auction will be conducted. Holien will be the master of ceremonies.

Mariners baseball camp, fan
appreciation day
The Mission Valley Mariner's American Legion baseball teams are holding their annual player baseball camp and coaches clinic from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 8 at the American Legion Field at O'Malley Park. Come out for a day of baseball instruction and meet the players. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. All participants will receive instructions in baseball fundamentals, a T-shirt, lunch and admission into the Mariner's game that starts at 1 p.m. against the Kootenai Valley Rangers. The camp is open to all coaches and kids age 7 to 18. Pick up your registration sheet at Century 21.
The Mariner's annual Community Appreciation Days will be on with their home openers.
The next one is at 6 p.m. on May 5. The B team will be playing the Glacier Twins A team for one 9-inning game.
This year at the Community Appreciation Days some of the first Mariner fans will be getting a gift. Admission to these events is free with a food donation.

Three former
Vikings make
academic
all-conference
Andrew Marcure, Andrew Sieges and Bo Smith-Herak all made the 2009 Frontier Conference academic all-conference team while attending University of Montana-Western. All three are from Charlo.

Mariners drop two in opening series
The Mission Valley Mariners B squad lost two games to the Class A Missoula Mavericks last Saturday, 12-2 and 6-3.
Chris Clary went 2-for-3 with two doubles. The A squad played in Whitefish on Wednesday, scores were unavailable at press time.
The B squad will have their home opener this Saturday against the Bitterroot Bucs while the A squad will travel to Eureka.
