Dixon senior center

With Martha Swonson: We’ll see you in Dixon for Melon Days this Saturday. The parade is at 11 a.m. and the senior center provides a great roast beef dinner at 12:30 p.m. A treat this year will be having our former super cook, Edna Rice, in charge of the kitchen, just like old times. We are so happy to have her back in place for this event! Come enjoy the races, vendors and various activities. “Mr. Melons” brought some melons to the local grocery already, though the hail storms and unusual weather has not been so favorable to the crop as in past years. Melons should be available for purchase!

Menu: Thursday, Aug. 26, chicken and dumplings; Monday, Aug. 30, tuna casserole; Thursday, Sept. 2, beef surprise. No meal will be served on Labor Day, Sept. 6. Coming events: Back to school and Sanders County Fair!

Recently Det. Doug Dryden from the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office informed us of the wide-spread abuse of using and selling prescription drugs in our area. It was very eye-opening and was geared towards what we seniors should be aware of.

If there are any readers who would be interested in an AARP Safe Driving class in Dixon this fall (now taught for any licensed driver), please let me know at 406-239-8638. The class is now done in one day.

See you in Dixon next Saturday!

St. Ignatius senior center

Undoubtedly the most popular events at the St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center are its lunches served at noon on Tuesdays and Fridays and the evening meal served at 5:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

However, many people like to stick around after lunches to play bingo, and usually there are several tables in play each second Monday night when pinochle players from around the valley gather in the Mission center. There will be an extra night of pinochle play in the St. Ignatius center this month on Monday, Aug. 30. Play begins at 7 p.m.

There is quilting just about every Thursday and the center is also the meeting place for the Foothills Club. Other private and public groups rent the center for various events like class reunions, receptions and even church services. The Monday morning Wii bowling will probably start up again pretty soon.

On a more serious note, center volunteers drive people to medical appointments. They also deliver lunches on Tuesdays and Fridays to those who need that service. The center is also a distribution point for commodities. Anyone wanting to find out if they qualify for meal deliveries or commodities may call or write to the center at St. Ignatius Senior Citizens, Box 758, St. Ignatius, MT 59865. The center invites everyone to come to the center and have a bite to eat, get acquainted with the friendly folks and perhaps join in a fun activity or even get the satisfaction from offering a little volunteer service.

For more information about the center and its activities and services, call the center at 745-4462 or center president Mack McConnell at 745-4151 or go on the Internet to www.missionmontana.org.

Schedule: Thursday, Aug. 26, quilters; Friday, Aug. 27, baked potato and salad bar lunch and bingo; Monday, Aug. 30, pinochle, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 31, meat loaf lunch and bingo; Wednesday, Sept. 1, roast beef dinner, 5:30 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 2, quilters; Friday, Sept. 3, lunch.

Ronan senior center

With Linda Schoon: With August winding down, and summer almost over with, parents everywhere are eagerly awaiting the start of the new school year. Hopefully, the students are, too. In either case, be sure and keep out an eye for students as they travel to and from school.

The Ronan Senior Center hosted the card party on Aug. 16 with 22 people in attendance. High score went to Marlys Hoeldt, low score to Joyce Siers, most pinochles to Carrie Faulkner and the door prize went to Darlene Salomon. The lunch was provided by Darlene Saloman and Ruby Mocabee. If you would like to join the card party, or would like to sign up to help with the lunch, give us a call at 676-2371 for more information. Ronan will host the card party at 7 p.m. on Sept 20.

Tomorrow is our monthly birthday dinner at noon. Come in and join us and listen to the wonderful music and visit with your friends.

We usually have our board meeting on the first Monday of the month, but because Sept. 6 is Labor Day, the meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13.

We will be closed on Labor Day, and will not be serving meals.

Our next evening meal will be at 5 p.m. on Sept. 9. and we will be serving chicken. That is the same day that the Veterans Rep will be here from 1 to 3 p.m.

Menu: Friday, Aug. 27, roast beef birthday dinner; Monday, Aug. 30, hamburgers; Wednesday, Sept. 1, spaghetti; Friday, Sept. 5, chili.

Have a good week, and enjoy the rest of the summer.

Polson senior center

With Cathy Corrigan: I think that our summer is just about at an end. There is a definite nip in the air these last few mornings. I’m not sure that I’m ready for the leaves to start falling yet. Hope that you all enjoy the last warm days coming.

Sept. 27 is our birthday dinner and elections. Be sure to come in and vote and have a wonderful lunch prepared by Wanda and Kelli.

Mary and Betty, our quilters, have sure been busy this summer. Stop by the center and check it out.

Now for some card scores. The bridge scores for Aug. 17 had Max Neeley first and Rachel Valett second. Bridge scores for Aug. 20 were Stan Peterson first and Dean Greiner second. Those getting double pinochles on Aug. 19 were Dee Adams, Bruce Elliott, Dwight Graham and David Daniels.

Menu: Thursday, Aug. 26, Polish dogs; Friday, Aug. 27, birthday dinner; Monday, Aug. 30, spaghetti; Tuesday, Aug. 31, baked chicken; Wednesday, Sept. 1, roast beef wrap.
