Quick Hitters: Joel Lewis
Joel Lews is a senior lineman for the Charlo High School football team. The Vikings advanced to the second round of the Class C 8-man football playoffs this fall.
What was it like doing the midnight football practice to begin the season? (Charlo started their football season, practicing on the first legal day they could at the stroke of midnight with rain coming down on the football field).
It was an awesome way to start the season with the team. It was a great way to spend the night and be able to go out there with the guys.
What do you feel was your team's best game of the season?
Drummond (a 38-14 win) and White Sulphur Springs (a 58-50 win). The Drummond win won us the conference. We came out and had a good game. In the White Sulphur Springs game, we came back from 20-0.
Don't you ever get tired playing both ways?
A little bit. Our coach conditions us real well. In 8-man football you expect to go both ways. I was out on the field 90 percent of the time.
How fast was your team this year?
We were pretty fast, one of our coaches said everybody on the line could play the running back position.
What are your final thoughts after that Chinook game?
I was proud of our guys, we didn't give up. What are your post-high school plans?I'm hoping to make the Air Force Academy and become a jet pilot.
What's the best part of playing the line?
The best part is knowing the guy to your left and right has your back because you were with them at practice and made that bond.
