Owen Thompson, veteran Polson cager, turned in a 24-point performance Friday night at Missoula to lead his Pirate teammates to a 63-60 victory over Loyola High School.

The Pirates overcame an early deficit and jumped out ahead to a 10-point lead in the second quarter and was never headed although the situation was doubtful at times.Early in the third quarter, Loyola pulled up to within three points of the Pirates but basketballs by Bob Anderson, John Erkkila and Thompson stopped that threat. Then in the last four minutes of the game, Polson cagers almost blew a 16-point lead when the Loyola Rams led by Ron Plummer suddenly caught fire.

The Rams' sharpshooting of Daly, Ron Plummer and Ray Wherley all combined goals and free throws in the scoring spree. Daly brought the Rams to within three points of the Pirates at the gun.

The Pirates outhustled the Rams on the boards and that was the deciding factor. Each team shot about 33 percent.

Helping Thompson out in the scoring end for the Pirates were John Erkkila with 10 and Bill Soucie, 8. Stan Thompson and Bob Anderson, all with 5 points each, and Cecil Thompson, 1. Leo Howell and Dave Sherick saw action but did not score.

High man for Loyola and the evening was Plummer with 27 points, 22 of them on field goals.
