A note from the newsroom

I’m addicted to coffee.

It’s pretty evident with the shrine to the Starbucks god I have in my apartment, the small fortune of empty lattes in my vehicle and the slight twitch I have when I’m sitting still.

So when the Big Sky Bistro and Art Bar opened up last week, I was like a hound dog on the scent of a grouse. To my delight, it’s one of those coffee shops where you can buy a cup of coffee, get some delicious food and relax for a while. With free Wi-Fi, I was able to surf the Internet into the late hours of Friday and Saturday thanks to the place’s extended hours. The wood stove gives you that wonderful dry heat and distinct smell that reminds you of home.

By the way, if you see somebody manically laughing in the corner of the Bistro, he’s not crazy, he’s just watching the latest episode of How I Met Your Mother on his laptop.

With the profits benefiting the Coalition for Kids, there’s no worries of your money going back to Starbucks, which is probably funding their own private army to take over the world (which, being from Washington, I’d be cool with, as long as they combined forces with Microsoft).

On Friday, they had an open-mic night and three bands showed up to perform. It created a nice atmosphere in a place that was already exuding it. A few Polson teenagers singing “This is the Best Song in the World Tribute” was unexpected but if they can keep doing Tenacious D songs, that’s totally cool with me.

True to its name, there’s plenty of art of the walls and each table has blank sheets of paper and a plethora of colored pencils to bring out your inner artist. Specific kudos to the cheddar cauliflower soup, I could eat a barrel drum of that stuff.

It looks like it’s going to be very tough to kick this coffee habit.
