Polson

With Cathy Corrigan: Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of things, I misplace stuff on my desk. That is what happened to a thank you I was to have done a few months ago. We here at the center would like to thank Vic La Rosa for his very generous donation of beef. Your donation has really helped our nutrition program, and for that we are very grateful.

There will be a representative from Blue Cross Blue Shield here on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. If you are interested, come on in.

Dave will be having another yard sale here on Saturday, Dec. 18 starting at 9 a.m. Come on down and see what there is to buy.

Shirley Laisy will be here on Friday, Dec. 17 for our blood pressure clinic and this is our birthday dinner also. So come have lunch with us and have your pressure taken, too. The clinic starts at 10:30 a.m.

Don’t forget that we still have See’s Candies here. There are assorted, dark chocolates and nuts and chews. They come in one pound boxes. They make a very nice gift for the person that’s hard to buy for!

Now for some card scores. Bridge scores for Dec. 3 were Jack Rupe first and Max Neeley second. The pinochle winners for Dec. 9 were Gerry Crusch first and Grace Schumacher second. Those getting double pinochles were Bruce Elliott, Bob Cooley, Carol Daniels, Alice Grilley, Alice Johnson, Gerry Crusch and Ward Grilley, twice.

Luncheon menu: Thursday (12/16) Polish dogs; Friday (12/17) roast beef birthday dinner; Monday (12/20) BBQ sandwich; Tuesday (12/21) baked ham; Wednesday (12/22) Salisbury steak.

St. Ignatius

The St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center Board of Directors set the date for the center’s annual meeting during their Dec. 10 meeting. The annual meeting will be held at noon on Friday, Jan. 14. Board members and officers will be elected and reports will be given.

The center will be closed for business Dec. 24 and 31 but a party celebrating Verna Krantz’s 90th birthday will be held in the center on Dec. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The following are the activities at the center for the rest of December: Dec. 16, quilters; Dec. 17, ham, turkey, dressing Christmas lunch; Dec. 17, Medicare plans information assistance; Dec. 21, beef stew lunch; Dec. 23 quilters; Dec. 24, center closed; Dec. 28, tomato macaroni lunch; Dec. 30, quilters; Dec. 31, center closed.

For more information about the center and its activities, call the center at 745-4462 or center president Mack McConnell at 745-4151 or write to St. Ignatius Senior Citizens Center, Box 758, St. Ignatius, MT 59865. Bingo is played after almost every lunch.

Ronan

On Saturday, Dec. 18, there will be a pancake supper here at the center to raise money to save the Ninepipes Museum. The supper will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Members of the board of directors will be on hand to serve you a delicious menu including pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon, and orange juice. This fundraiser is to help the museum towards its goal of purchasing the museum building and will be a great way to warm the stomachs of hungry holiday shoppers. This is a very worthwhile cause and each of us should support it, either by donations or by attending their fundraisers. If you have never been through the museum, you should do that also. It is a wonderful place to visit to see much of the history of the Mission Valley and the Native heritage of the area.

On Tuesday nights, the local churches are doing a great job with “The Shepherd Table” and the numbers of people eating here is on the rise. They serve from 5 to 7 p.m., and the menu changes each week.

The center well be closed on Friday, Dec. 24 and again on Friday, Dec. 31 for the Christmas and New Years holidays. Due to the fact that we are closed on the last Friday of December, the birthday has been moved to the 7th of January.

The next card party in Ronan will be here on Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. Thanks to the COA for the great “open house” that they hosted for their homemakers and volunteers this week. It’s always nice to know that you are appreciated.

We have a lot of books and puzzles that are available for borrowing or trading. Just come in on one of the days we are open (M-W-F) and look over the selection. Our menu for the rest of the month is:

Friday (17th) is seafood casserole, Monday (20th) is chicken, Wednesday (22nd) is salad bar, Friday (24th) we are closed, Monday (27th) is Swedish meatballs, Wednesday (29th) is “cooks choice” and Friday (31st) we are closed.

Have a great week.

Stop by the Ronan Senior Citizen Center after this season’s final ticket drawing, which will be at 4 p.m., and the Parade of Lights which starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Dixon

With Martha Swonson: I’ve been gone for several days to the Seattle area, visiting some high school friends to celebrate our passing another decade, with lots of laughter, remembrances and thankfulness. We grew up in the Happy Days of the 1950s in Juneau, Ala., where living was safe and simple and lots of fun. Time to get ready for another winter, with plenty of warm memories!

This is very short notice, and I hope some of you have heard the word — the Dixon Senior Center will have a Christmas party following this Thursday’s meal on Dec. 16. We’d love to have you drop by. Lunch is at noon and our party will begin about 1 p.m. Come if you can. We will have a fun gift exchange, so bring a present marked for man or woman, or either, if you can. And thanks to Joey Hettick and Delene Tufly for helping to decorate the center.

The meals for the rest of December will be:

Thursday, Dec. 16, meatloaf; Monday, Dec. 20, fiesta soup, grilled cheese sandwiches; Thursday, Dec. 23, baked ham, special Christmas dessert; Monday, Dec. 27, lasagna; Thursday, Dec. 30, fried chicken.

Meals are at noon on Thursdays and at five o’clock on Mondays. Take outs are available.

Come in from the weather and meet some new friends, or see some old ones. Everyone is important to our senior center… and any age is welcome!
