Winter storm WARNING

| December 29, 2010 11:16 AM

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. MST Thursday. Between 6 to 12 inches of total snow accumulation is predicted for Western Montana and Central Idaho. The National Weather Service says to expect moderate to heavy snow through Wednesday night creating hazardous driving conditions and recommends travel only in an emergency.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office reported multiple accidents and slide-ins countywide this morning. It is extremely dangerous to travel because of the snow on the road and chains are strongly recommended for hills. Use extreme caution, if you don't need to drive in this storm, don't.

LCSO is reporting reduced visibility, blowing and drifting snow and severe driving conditions on U.S. Highway 93 North between Elmo and Polson.

"It is absolutely horrendous up here," one officer said.
