Scarlets hungry for victory
ALBERTON — Heading into the district tournament this weekend, the Arlee girls’ basketball team is looking for a win.
The Scarlets lost two games last week to Alberton and Noxon.
“I didn’t think we played that well,” head coach Richard Bachmeier said. “But I saw improvement from the last games.”
Against Alberton last Thursday, a physical game wasn’t the reason for the loss as Arlee exited without injury.
“We hold our own,” Bachmeier said.
With a tie game at the half, Arlee pulled a head by one in the third quarter before being outscored 15-7 in the last quarter for the 45-38 loss.
“We had a bad quarter and they had a good one,” Bachmeier said.
Senior Chelsea Allaire led with 13 points and freshman Kristyn Adams added 10.
Two nights later, on the Scarlet’s senior night, Noxon spoiled the festivities with a 39-26 win.
Arlee started out well, holding an 11-7 lead after eight minutes. It vanished after a four-point second quarter and three-point third quarter.
“We didn’t recover well [after the second quarter],” Bachmeier said. “We didn’t shoot well. We did well rebounding though.”
Junior Melissa Ivanoff and Adams both led with seven points.
This weekend, Arlee enters the 14-C district tournament in Ronan. Its first game is at 4 p.m. tonight versus St. Regis. The Scarlets are in the same bracket as conference leader Hot Springs.
“If we play ball like we can, we can beat [St. Regis],” Bachmeier said. “I think we know what we need to do. We just need to do it.”
