Warriors continue winning ways
ALBERTON — After securing the top spot in the conference, the Arlee boys’ basketball team didn’t let up, winning three times last week.
Against Mission, the Warriors rolled to a 23-14 lead at the half without stepping to the foul line once.
Arlee’s defense didn’t let up either, not allowing Mission to score for the first four minutes of the game and forcing 28 turnovers. In the second half, the Warriors put 29 points on the board for the 52-36 win.
Two nights later, in Alberton, Arlee jumped out to a 29-15 lead at the half before an 18-point fourth quarter en route to a 60-35 win.
Head coach Clyde Tucker attributed the huge fourth quarter “mostly to the ball going in the basket.”
He said Alberton tried to slow down the game, but his team played well.
With eight different players notching points, senior Kyle Felsman led with 15 and senior Trevor Ruble added 12.
On Saturday, the opponent changed, but the outcome didn’t as Arlee breezed by Noxon 72-39. With an up-tempo game, Tucker said his team didn’t shoot real well despite scoring 72 points.
Senior Kody Morgieau made the most of his senior night by scoring 21 points and junior Jesse Pfau added 14. Senior John Sasavere had 11.
With all the offense, Tucker said he doesn’t think his defense is getting rusty before the district tournament in Ronan this weekend.
“We held Noxon to 39 and Alberton to 35,” he said. “You’re not going to shut any body out, but that’s pretty good.”
Arlee has a bye in the first round of the district tournament in Ronan and will face the winner of the Hot Springs-Two Eagle River game.
“[Hot Springs and Two Eagle River] are playing really good right now,” he said. “I’d rather play the loser.”
The Warriors will prepare the same way they have all year.
“It’s worked against everybody so far,” Tucker said.
