York farewell

At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Linderman Library, there will be a social time to wish Steve York, principal of Linderman School,  farewell and good luck with his new position at the Office of Public Instruction in Helena.

Safety seat check up

Child Safety Seat Check-Up will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Jan. 21 at Polson Fire Department. Polson- Buckle Up Montana will have Technicians’  available to provide on site child safety seat inspections and education. Installation will be reviewed for each child safety seat. Friday, Jan. 22

Pachyderm Club meeting

The Polson Pachyderm Club will meet on Friday, Jan. 22, at Papa Don’s Restaurant at the golf course. Social time and meal ordering begins at 11:30 a.m.; the meeting begins at noon. The guest speaker will be Todd Crossett, Polson’s city manager.  He will discuss the community’s strengths and current issues as well as reviewing some recent projects. Anyone who is interested is cordially invited to attend Pachyderm meetings.

‘Hansel and Gretel’

The Port Polson Players musical production of “Hansel and Gretel,” plays this weekend. The show, featuring more than 120 student performers grades kindergarten through eighth will be presented on the PHS stage, at 7:30 p.m. with one cast performing Friday, Jan. 22, and a separate cast on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tickets for the show are available at the door only, prior to curtain time.

Red Poppy fourth Sunday

From 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, the Fourth Sunday Gallery Reception at The Red Poppy will open a show by Joan Mason, “LINTATIONS … Visions in Dryer Lint. “ The Copeland Bell Ringers will perform on the stage at 2 p.m. As always, a reception will follow the program. FUMC blood drive

First United Methodist Church of Polson is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The church is located at 301 16th Avenue East. LC Democrats meeting

Lake County Democrats will meet on Wednesday, Jan 27. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m., meeting at 7 p.m. at Polson City Library.Topic will be recycling, public is welcome! Speakers include Cynthia Forsch, Eco-Logic Strategies: “Sustainable Packaging and Producer Responsibility”; Judy Preston, Recycling Volunteer: “What, How & Where to recycle in Lake County” and Mark Nelson, Lake County Waste Management:  “Recycle Montana (RMt) – progress in recycling statewide.”

Wednesday     Bookfriends

At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Fourth Wednesday Bookfriends will meet at the United Methodist Church to explore “Any Bitter Thing,” by Monica Wood. Sharon Fulton will lead the group.

Religious education classes

Sacred Heart Parish in Arlee announces religious education classes for the children in first through third grades. Classes begin on Wednesday, Jan. 27. In order to have the children released from the school to attend we must have a registration form filled out by the parent/guardian. Forms are available in the entryway of Sacred Heart and Jocko Churches or call 726-3540/726-3835 to make arrangements.

MMQG meeting

The Mission Mountain Quilt Guild will meet on Feb. 2, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 35663 Terrace Lake Rd., Ronan. Spaghetti fundraiser

There will be a spaghetti fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Polson Elks Lodge to help PHS sophomore Clint Cooper attend a youth leadership forum in Washington, D.C. Fresh pasta from Country Foods of Polson, garlic bread, salad and dessert.

Treasure hunt bazaar

Dixon Senior Center will have a Treasure Hunt Bazaar beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. Reserve your tables by calling Delene Tufly at 246-3271, or Sharon Cole at 370-8662. Lunch will be available. Items such as art and craft works, baked goods, home canned goods, collectibles and regiftings.

Soups On benefit

Join the fun from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, when Scottish literature, music and food will be the bill of fare at Page By Page books, which is holding the annual Burns’ Night Celebration as a fundraising event for Soups On, a free program offering lunch to all every Monday-Thursday. The homemade soup, bread, dessert and drink is offered at the Wander Inn located on the corner of 1st Street and Seventh Ave. A small donation will guarantee you a night of Scottish fun. Rhythm Angels

Big Productions, a fundraising adventure of the Lake County Youth Home, presents the Rhythm Angels from Nashville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at Polson High School Auditorium. Kids 18 and under are free for the series concerts, thanks to the Youth Home, but children 11 and under need to be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.Tickets are available from Fiddle Sticks School of Music on 5th, or Shannon Nunlist Physical Therapy on Main Street in Polson, or from True Value Hardware or Main Street Gallery and Framing in Ronan. New hours for Ronan City Library

The Ronan City Library hours have changed. Sunday and Monday: Closed; Tuesday, Wednesday: 12-6 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 12-6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When a legal holiday falls on a Monday, the library will be closed the following Tuesday.  Story times are Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Polson winterfest

Southern Comfort Band will play at Polson’s Winterfest, on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Elks Club Ballroom. This event is a fundraiser for Reverend John Payne and his wife Sharon, to cover the personal costs while John receives treatment in Seattle. Mardi Gras for the Boys and Girls Club

The Annual Mardi Gras party to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the KwaTaqNuk Resort with a no host social hour, dinner, silent and live auction then ending with great dancing to Red Moon band. RHS potato feed

Ronan High School Show Choir will hold a Groundhog Day potato bake from 4-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Event Center commons. A silent auction will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. and the Show Choir will perform at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Call 676-3390, ext. 3400 for more information.

Friday Free Three

Arlee Schools is proud to announce the next Friday Free Three Activities Day Program on Friday, Jan. 29. We are happy to have Tarn Ream and Michael Meyer of MoDE, Unity Dance and Drum Inc., sharing with us their expertise in African Dance, Music and Culture. The program will be two hours in length, beginning at 9 a.m. and is open to grades K through 12 and any adults who wish to attend.

LC Republican women meeting

Lake County Republican Women will meet on Monday, Feb. 1, at the Driftwood Café, 1106 U.S. Highway 93, Polson. The social time begins at 11:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning at noon. Carolyn Heinz, a member of the North Lake County Public Library District steering committee, is guest speaker.

People’s Center cultural days

The People’s Center Cultural Arts Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Friday from Feb. 4 to May 2010. Come and learn to make moccasins, bead, make cloth dolls or dance outfits. Everyone welcome, beginners, experts. Call 675-0160 for more information.

Virginia Reber Public Health Award

The Lake County Board of Health is accepting nominations for the First Annual Virginia Reber Public Health Award. This award honors a county resident or entity that has furthered public health principles and practices in Lake County. Nominating forms can be obtained from the Lake County Public Health Web site at www.lakecountypublichealth.org or by contacting the Lake County Public Health Department at 883-7288. Fishing Areas Reopen

The water levels in Kicking Horse, Ninepipe, and Pablo Reservoirs are all presently above minimum recreational pool levels. Anglers are reminded that there are daylight restrictions for fishing at Ninepipe and Pablo Reservoir. Fishing is legal from daylight to dusk. For more information regarding fishing at Kicking Horse and Ninepipe reservoirs contact Barry Hansen or Germaine White at 883-2888.

Monday Night Meals

The Monday Night Meals are still being served at the St. Ignatius Community Center from 5-7 p.m. every Monday. There is no charge for the meals, anyone and families are welcome.

Big Game Banquet

It’s time once again for the 15th Annual Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Big Game Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Best Western KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with lots of games, raffles and the silent auction. Ronan City Library Board Position

One position on the Ronan City Library Board of Trustees is vacant. Time, a desire to be involved and being a Ronan City Library patron are required. This is a volunteer, non-paying position. The Board of Trustees will review applications at the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Park board member needed

The Lake County Commissioners are looking for a volunteer to serve on the Lake County Park Board. The County Park Board is a volunteer group that advised the Board of Commissioners on management, sale, lease, exchange and disbursement of money or the acceptance of Federal aid having to do with public park land within Lake County’s jurisdiction. The Park Board meetings are as needed called by the Park Board Chairman who is one of the Lake County Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners will accept letters of interest to serve on this Board until Jan. 22. Letters should be addressed to the Commissioners at 106 4th Ave East, Polson, MT 59860. Cemetery board member needed

The Lake County Commissioners are seeking letters of interest to serve on the Lakeview Cemetery Board. This board pays the bills of the cemetery, directs the sexton on general duties, and makes plans for the future of the cemetery. Meetings are held once a month on the second Wednesday of the month. The Board of Commissioners will accept letters of interest to serve on this board until Jan. 22. Letters should be addressed to the Commissioners at 106 4th Ave. East, Polson, MT 59860. Painting classes

The St. Ignatius Adult Ed program will be offering an acrylic painting and color theory class taught by Kathryn Yelsa, Emmy Award winning artist. Kathryn will teach a six-week comprehensive class that will cover color theory, painting techniques, glazing, washes, and much more. The class will meet from 5:30-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning on Feb. 2. Students will need to provide for their own individual supplies. Oriental Dancers Club

Join the Ladies of the Lake Oriental Dancers Club for your new year’s resolution of fun and fitness. Classes begin with strengthening and stretching excercises. Choreographed dances are then taught using many belly dance, ethnic and world dance styles incorporating props such as veils, zills, swords, etc. If you love to laugh and dance (with experience or not), this is the group for you. Alzheimer’s support group

An Alzheimer’s support group is beginning in the Mission Valley and will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the United Methodist Church on U.S. Highway 93, south of the Charlo turnoff. For more information call 676-2367 or 644-2363.

Free lunch offered

Faith and Community Outreach Partners are offering a free lunch, Soup’s On!, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Thursday every week at the Wander Inn. Look for the open sign lit up in the window. The lunch will offer homemade soup, pie, bread, coffee, milk and juice served. Dessert follows. The lunch will be ongoing. FCOP is a nonprofit progressive assembly on a journey. We are committed to vibrant worshipping, honest learning, serving, caring and doing good things.
