Free dinner
Fellowship Baptist Church cordially invites the Polson community to a free community dinner from 6:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. We will be serving spaghetti dishes and assorted deserts. Fort Connah meeting
The annual meeting of the Fort Connah Historical Restoration Society will be held at the 44 Bar and Outwest Grill, at mile marker 37, five miles north of St. Ignatius on Highway 93, at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 28. Attendees will be briefed on the routine business of the society. Society treasurer, Rod Wamsley, will be present to show a VHS video of the Allard-Pablo last wild buffalo roundup in North America after the business meeting. Everyone welcome. Rhythm Angels
Big Productions, a fundraising adventure of the Lake County Youth Home, presents the Rhythm Angels from Nashville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at Polson High School Auditorium. Kids 18 and under are free for the series concerts, thanks to the Youth Home, but children 11 and under need to be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.Tickets are available from Fiddle Sticks School of Music on 5th, or Shannon Nunlist Physical Therapy, or from True Value Hardware or Main Street Gallery and Framing in Ronan. Big Arm potluck
Big Arm will hold its monthly potluck at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at the Big Arm Fire Hall. We will have a historic theme. Our special guest will be Dennis Kellogg, a Big Fork collector and local historian. Simpson art showing
The Sandpiper Art Gallery and Gift Shop is pleased to welcome the public to the first opening reception of the 2010 exhibition year from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at 306 Main Street in Polson. Showing are the students of Joanne Simpson’s classes in watercolor and color theory. Harp music by one student, Debbie Conrad, will be featured as well as recent work of Sandpiper Gallery members. Soups On benefit
Join the fun from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, when Scottish literature, music and food will be the bill of fare at Page By Page books, which is holding the annula Burns’ Night Celelbration as a fundraising event for Soups On, a free program offering lunch to all every Monday-Thursday. The homemade soup, bread, dessert and drink is offered at the Wander Inn located on the corner of 1st Street and Seventh Ave. A small donation will guarantee you a night of Scottish fun. Treasure hunt bazaar
Dixon Senior Center will have a Treasure Hunt Bazaar beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. Reserve your tables by calling Delene Tufly at 246-3271, or Sharon Cole at 370-8662. Concert at Good Shepherd
Gypsy melodies, original compositions, movie/TV and radio themes/old time fiddle/bluegrass music will fill the air at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at this free community concert. Musician’s throughout the valley ranging from age 7 - 70 will cast their spell on mandolins, violins, guitars and cellos. Grasshopper meetings
All landowners in Lake County should take notice of the importance of controlling grasshoppers for the 2010 season and what assistance will be available. Explanation will be given at three different meetings to inform the public of a Lake County grasshopper control assistance program. Meetings are: Wednesday, Feb. 3 at noon – St. Ignatius Tribal Fitness Community Center; Wednesday, Feb.10 at 3 p.m. – Ronan Community Center and Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7p.m. – Joe McDonald Fitness Conference Room, Pablo . ARK program
A program entitled “Hungry Children in Montana” will be presented at the ARK on 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3. Lorianne Burhop and Emily Dunklee from the Montana Food Bank will talk about understanding a hungry child, healthy food and how to help hungry kids.

Republican committee meeting
Central committee for the Repbulican party will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Miracle of America Museum meeting room. We will be discussing the upcoming primary elections and other voter issues that will effect Lake County.
Mardi Gras
The annual Mardi Gras fund raising celebration of the Boys & Girls Club of the Flathead reservation and Lake County is just around the corner with festivities starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the KwaTakNuk Resort in Polson. Sandpiper workroom opening
Thanks in part to a grant from the Greater Polson Community Foundation and the generous accommodation of Dick Bratton of Alpine Tipi Designs, the Sandpiper Gallery has opened a new workshop room, making the Sandpiper a complete art center. The first workshop is “Acrylic and Oil for the Serious Painter” by Ted Winger. Some painting experience is prerequisite for this class, which is now open for registration at the gallery 883-5956. Also new are children’s summer art classes by retired middle school art teachers John Davis and Margery Christensen, including Mandalas, Watercolor, Cartooning and Rock Painting. Adult classes in Drawing, Printmaking, Basketry, Watercolor, Plein Aire and Photoshop are also scheduled. Masumola meeting
The February 2010 meeting of the Masumola Club will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11. A social hour will be held from 5:45 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and a program at 7 p.m. Mike and Trish Rodrique will talk about their experiences working around the world with Habitat for Humanity.
MM Audubon meeting
“Pristine waters and biodiversity threatened in the North Fork Flathead River” by Dr. Ric Hauer will be the next evening program of the Mission Mountain Audubon Society at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb.9. at the Polson City Library Meeting Room. Everyone is welcome. The North Fork of the Flathead River is one of the primary sources of Flathead Lake’s clean waters. Ric Hauer is a limnology professor at the University of Montana and the Flathead Lake Biological Station.

Spring 2010 Spay/Neuter Clinic
Once again the Lake County Spay / Neuter Task Force is planning a two day spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats sometime in late May. Our team includes the Mission Valley Animal Shelter (MVAS), Life Savers Animal Rescue (LSAR), as well as support from Polson Animal Control, Tribal Animal Control, local veterinarians and volunteers. Each two-day clinic costs between $7,000 and $9,000 to fund a specialized spay / neuter MASH-type mobile unit and team of vets, vet techs, medical supplies, food and lodging to travel to our area and provide this service. This combined effort has been successful in keeping animal overpopulation under control in our communities for the past three years. We will post dates for the clinic as soon as funding is ensured. New Hours for Ronan City Library
The Ronan City Library hours have changed. Sunday and Monday:Closed; Tuesday, Wednesday: 12-6p.m.; Thursday,10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 12-6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When a legal holiday falls on a Monday, the library will be closed the following Tuesday. Story times are Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Polson winterfest
Southern Comfort Band will play at Polson’s Winterfest, on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Elks Club Ballroom. This event is a fundraiser for Reverend John Payne and his wife Sharon, to cover the personal costs while John receives treatment in Seattle. Mardi Gras for the Boys and Girls Club

People’s Center cultural days

Fishing Areas Reopen
The water levels in Kicking Horse, Ninepipe, and Pablo Reservoirs are all presently above minimum recreational pool levels. Anglers are reminded that there are daylight restrictions for fishing at Ninepipe and Pablo Reservoir. Fishing is legal from daylight to dusk. Monday Night Meals
The Monday Night Meals are still being served at the St. Ignatius Community Center from 5-7 p.m. every Monday. There is no charge for the meals, anyone and families are welcome.
Park board member needed
The Lake County Commissioners are looking for a volunteer to serve on the Lake County Park Board. The County Park Board is a volunteer group that advised the Board of Commissioners on management, sale, lease, exchange and disbursement of money or the acceptance of Federal aid having to do with public park land within Lake County’s jurisdiction. The Park Board meetings are as needed called by the Park Board Chairman who is one of the Lake County Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners will accept letters of interest to serve on this Board until Jan. 22. Letters should be addressed to the Commissioners at 106 4th Ave East, Polson, MT 59860. Cemetery board member needed
The Lake County Commissioners are seeking letters of interest to serve on the Lakeview Cemetery Board. This board pays the bills of the cemetery, directs the sexton on general duties, and makes plans for the future of the cemetery. Meetings are held once a month on the second Wednesday of the month. The Board of Commissioners will accept letters of interest to serve on this board until Jan. 22. Letters should be addressed to the Commissioners at 106 4th Ave. East, Polson, MT 59860. Painting classes
The St. Ignatius Adult Ed program will be offering an acrylic painting and color theory class taught by Kathryn Yelsa, Emmy Award winning artist. Kathryn will teach a six-week comprehensive class that will cover color theory, painting techniques, glazing, washes, and much more. The class will meet from 5:30-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning on Feb. 2. Students will need to provide for their own individual supplies. Oriental Dancers Club
Join the Ladies of the Lake Oriental Dancers Club for your new year’s resolution of fun and fitness. Classes begin with strengthening and stretching excercises. Choreographed dances are then taught using many belly dance, ethnic and world dance styles incorporating props such as veils, zills, swords, etc. If you love to laugh and dance (with experience or not), this is the group for you. Alzheimer’s support group

Free lunch offered
Faith and Community Outreach Partners are offering a free lunch, Soup’s On!, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Thursday every week at the Wander Inn. Look for the open sign lit up in the window. The lunch will offer homemade soup, pie, bread, coffee, milk and juice served. Dessert follows. The lunch will be ongoing. FCOP is a nonprofit progressive assembly on a journey. We are committed to vibrant worshipping, honest learning, serving, caring and doing good things.
